Title: Dumb statements from vampire Queen
Post by: Belloc on December 07, 2010, 08:20:43 AM
"For those who care, and I understand if you don’t: Today I quit being a Christian. I’m out. I remain committed to Christ as always but not to being “Christian” or to being part of Christianity. It’s simply impossible for me to “belong” to this quarrelsome, hostile, disputatious, and deservedly infamous group. For ten years, I’ve tried. I’ve failed. I’m an outsider. My conscience will allow nothing else."

“In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gαy. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control. I refuse to be anti-Democrat. I refuse to be anti-secular humanism. I refuse to be anti-science. I refuse to be anti-life. In the name of Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen.”

"My faith in Christ is central to my life. My conversion from a pessimistic atheist lost in a world I didn't understand, to an optimistic believer in a universe created and sustained by a loving God is crucial to me. But following Christ does not mean following His followers. Christ is infinitely more important than Christianity and always will be, no matter what Christianity is, has been, or might become."

My commitment to Christ remains at the heart and center of my life. Transformation in Him is radical and ongoing. That I feel now that I am called to be an outsider for Him, to step away from the words, "Christian" and "Christianity" is something that my conscience demands of me. I feel that my faith in Him demands this of me. I know of no other way to express how I must remove myself from those things which seek to separate me from Him.

Remember when she used to post at AQ?  :geezer:

And then the mass bans for defending a Catholic author?

Which author?  Ah you mean Malachi Martin?

Yes, MM.

Anyway, I don't get this vampire stuff.  I can only guess that weird TV shows primed the youth to love this or something?

Sesame Street?

If you've ever shelved books in the library you can see a huge section under her name.

Low brow women's fiction.

Reading your link it would appear Anne Rice is a cultural liberal, not particularly intellectual, wanting strongly to believe in something, but unable to deal with Christian morality, particularly those aspects that are most hated by the contemporary liberals and cultural marxists.

I don't recall ever hearing of her either. I think this may be one of those cases where 'ignorance is bliss'!

YES. Ignorance is bliss. She publishes a large collection of pornographically trashy vampire/erotic books. She was responsible for the trashy Tom Cruise movie Interview with a Vampire, and created a mild media sensation when she claimed to convert to Christianity.

It would have been wonderful if her conversion had been to the true Faith, and a sincere one... but I think what we're seeing is the same principal as how a sinner can't presume upon God's mercy by living in blatant, willful sin, and wear a scapular, and think they'll go right to heaven anyhow. If you live a life of hardened sin, especially leading COUNTLESS other souls to/toward hell, only one thing will likely save you: a SINCERE conversion to the TRUE Faith, followed by amending your life any and every way you can. (Which is pretty much the case for all of us, incidentally.)

She converted to "christianity" and I don't know if her writing even really changed much after she did. For someone that is not serious about God and TRUE morality to fall back into the pit after trying to crawl out of it isn't terribly surprising... even if it is admittedly tragic and unfortunate.

If you don't know who she is, keep your brain and soul clean. Don't go looking to find out. (Diabolical smut.)

Anne Rice did not convert to Christianity.  She was a cradle Catholic and fell away from her faith in her early 20's and after her marriage to Stan Rice who was a devout atheist she continued to stay away from the church.   She went back to the NO before her husband died and they were married in the church.  It is true what you say about much of her writing being very erotic, especially those titles written under her pen name of, Anne Rampling.  But during the time she had returned to the NO, she wrote two historical fiction novels about Our Blessed Lord.  Both are well written and the historical facts incorporated within the novels were well researched.  It is true most of her novels, especially the vampire chronicles are upper end smut, but she is by far, an excellent researcher of historical facts.  I would definitely not recommend most of her writing be read by Catholics or anyone else, with the exceptions of, Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt and Christ the Lord: Out of Cana.  She also wrote a book about her return to Catholicism titled, Called Out of Darkness: A Spiritual Confession.  I haven't read it, but the reviews on Amazon are favorable.   I'd be interested to see what direction her writing takes now that she's turned her back on Catholicism, again.

For smut proof reading for Catholics, I highly recommend, Taylor Caldwell.  She was quite the prolific author, with over forty books to her credit.  The lady even tackled an historical fiction novel of one of the Christian world's most hated persons, Judas Iscariot.  A very good read indeed.

Hi Cheryl,  thanks for the balanced report of Mrs. Rice.

Your suggestion of reading Taylor Caldwell is very wise.  What a penetrating insight into the human heart she has!  (I know that's a cliche, but still.)

Thanks Elizabeth.  I can't help myself when it comes to books and the authors of books.  I'm a hardcore bibliophile and former bookseller, I think it's in my blood.  If you haven't read Taylor Caldwell's, Dialogues With the Devil, it's an absolute must.  It's about a series of dialogues between St. Michael the Archangel and Lucifer, a great book!  God certainly gifted Mrs. Caldwell with the ability to write and to write well!

I almost forgot, do not read anything written by Christopher Rice; like mother, like son!

Have not read Dialogues, but both my husband and I come from a long line of bibliophiles!  Being dragged into dusty old used book stores, waiting in the car "for just 2 minutes"  :laugh1:, viewing the Librarian as an exalted being!
