Going to college is the worse mistake I have ever done in my life, especially being a woman as I am. I wish I had not ever enrolled in those institutions, especially nowadays, in which most of them are a waste of time and money at best for men and women alike.
In exceptional circuмstances, going to an university, may be a good idea though, depending on the profession you choose, especially for those men that intend to enter the married state of life. It may be useful for them to find a job and support a wife & family, or when they are already in the workforce and know beforehand that a professional degree will bring them benefits.
Personally, the only thing I got out of college is a vast debt of almost 100 000 K which I will pay for the rest of my life. I am very happy though that I chose MOTHERHOOD over career and I believe wholeheartly it was the right choice. I will not be insisting my daughters to go to college, though. I wish I can spare them from making that silly mistake.
I'd say that if you do no intend to marry, joining a religious order would be the best idea. The college atmosphere may not be positive for your soul anyways. Pray much for the Holy Ghost to guide you in this important decision so you do it for the right reason. As a real vocation.
