Sometimes there will be a racial motivation, sometimes there won't be.
Besides, the black man in the story cited by you was the boyfriend of the white baby's mother, who I presume was also white!
Anyhow, I very much doubt that it would be any comfort to the relatives of the victim of a violent crime to find out that the motivation for it
wasn't racial:
"You'll be pleased to know that the person who killed your son was of the same race as he was, so the motivation for his murder wasn't racial!"
"That's wonderful news!"
In the final analysis, what difference does it make?
