I just noticed that there are a lot of GREY BACKGROUND topics in the recent posts section right now -- those are topics that won't appear for guests, search engines, and those not logged-in.

Members-only continues to be a popular subforum, out of necessity.

I know I just bumped this thread recently, but I *have* to point out that in the last couple days, there's been a real uptick in activity in the "Members Only" subforum.
Maybe various members are really getting into using that location. I don't know. Maybe it's the news stories going around right now that necessitate a discrete place for discussion.

All I know is -- the traffic to that subforum seems to be going up, not sideways. Much less down.

I look at "Recent Posts" on the right-hand sidebar. 20 topics. 6 of them "Members Only". Non-members are really missing out on a lot! Just saying...

Just a reminder that MANY good topics/posts are being hid from the general public in the "Members Only" subforum. I wouldn't say "hid", since anyone can sign up for a CathInfo account -- αnσnymσusly -- and read these hundreds of topics.

Probably the best, juiciest topics -- I'm just saying.

And remember these are meaty topics, with lots of posts and discussion of substance. This isn't "fluff". CathInfo gets tons of regular posts every day, news stories, less controversial stuff, etc. This is the real controversial, necessary, important content. Even missing out on 2 threads a day of THIS nature is 2 threads too many -- because the best topics go in Members Only.

If CathInfo membership cost $9.99/month, or $4.99/month, or even $1.99/month I could understand some people saying, "Well, I can live without those posts nevertheless. I'm going to have to; money is just very tight right now."

BUT IT'S FREE. LITERALLY FREE. You don't have to write an essay, get sponsored by an existing member, use your real name, provide ANY personal info, use your main email address, or expose your identity in any way.

And you're being generous by not putting it behind a paywall. There's a lot of forum owners who would charge $9.99/month and call it Cathinfo+.

Imagine you're in your Coffee & Donuts hall after Mass, and a bunch of regular conversations are going on.

Then you notice a few people are whispering to some people sitting down, and pretty soon a bunch of people have disappeared into an adjoining room to have a private meeting. Wouldn't THAT be the place you'd most want to be? Wouldn't you assume the most "interesting" or "important" discussion is going on in that elite group having their secret meeting?

Sure, the rest of the parishioners in the main Hall are continuing to discuss the Liturgy, politics, today's Mass, school, activities, children, family matters, etc., and those conversations are well & good. But who wouldn't be tempted to know what's being discussed in that SIDE ROOM? If you're honest, you will admit "of course I'd be curious!".

Well, if CathInfo is a Coffee & Donuts hall, the side room where the authorities can't eavesdrop is the Members Only subforum.
