  • I understand Donatism to be a heresy whereby it is claimed that to receive sacraments from a heretical or apostate priest is not valid.

OK--- but what if one  is aware that the the priest is heretical and still accepts it?  I would imagine in that case the Sacrament IS invalid as opposed to the recipient being ignorant of the situation.

There Is No Such Thing As 'Sede Vacantism'...
nor is there such thing as a 'Feeneyite' or 'Feeneyism'

  • I don't have a firm understanding of Donatism; my memory is a sieve lately.

I thought it was about the personal sins of a religious not being an impediment to the validity of the Sacraments they confect? :confused1:

No the Donatists believed that the Sacraments of Priests who had apostazied in times of persecution were invalid.

Clovis has the correct definition of Donatist.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

Nice one, C!  I imagine you probably realize how fitting it was to say that!
