  • Whereas, pilots in the military do extremely well financially if they stay in for the tenure of their career and retire on a nice fat gov pension.

  • I used to want to be a pilot.  Got my pilot's license and everything, but then I developed secondary high blood pressure.  What a blessing!  I thought that the job was going to pay, but wow!  Not the first time that I have heard about this.   Awhile back two pilots up North were arguing about low wagers, bad benefits, etc., got off track, and end-up over Wisconsin.

  • Wow. I never knew that pilots made so little. I wonder why it used to pay more and now pays so little.

  • I had a friend who became a fighter pilot in Canada.  He's on the wrong side.  What a world we live in...

  •   It is common to find little boys who want to be pilots one day. My father too used to be attracted to this job. But he says that as it required a great physical and mental tolerance plus many sleepless hours, he forgot about it altogether!

  • They make so little because of simple economics. There are far to many qualified pilots in this country chasing to few jobs. Lots of pilots plus few jobs = low wages. It is now like that with many professions in this country.

  • I guess too many little boys in the 60's said "I wanna be a pilot when I grow up!" and followed through with it.

Today, they try to fill every plane to capacity. There are only so many people with money to pay for a flight. So I'd be willing to believe there aren't enough flights to keep all the available pilots busy (or in high demand).

A bunch of the cost of flying pays for the fuel that is used up -- so that gets taken out right off the bat. The airline business operates with very tight margins, especially today now that with high fuel costs are an everyday occurrence.

Moreover, there has to be SOME profit left over for the Corporation to distribute to its shareholders. From the impersonal, psychopathic corporation's point of view, "Who cares about a living wage? Who cares about the laborer being worthy of his hire? I want money, and lots of it!"
