I have a 7 year old Jack Russel Terror

she is a very good guard dog

This was my Jack Russell, "Buddy".  He just died in September after 11 years of being the best dog a fella could have.  When I went out to walk to say my Rosary, he was there.  When I was praying my office, he was next to me.  He always wanted to be near when I was praying.

His legs got worse in the back, from cancer.  I took care of him myself for the last five months.  Do you know, one day after his legs started to fail, I was outside, and when I came in, he was not in his bed, but after looking around I found him upstairs waiting for me in tHe spot where I would always pray.  He climbed each stair with his bad legs, to be up there waiting for me...

Our first family dog was a Jack Russell.  They are wonderful dogs.

Yes - he was my first dog ever.  I did not know what I was in for!  But he fit right in very quickly...

    cats > dogs

Cats don't keep you up all night barking. Cats don't bark at you because you have the nerve to walk down the street. If a cat poops in your yard it buries it. Cats don't eat your shoes, books, furniture etc.

I'll never understand why anyone would subject themselves to a canine.

    Sorry Alex

I would like dogs for protection and to guard my home but I do enjoy cats more from a personal point of view. Plus cats are easier to deal with in apartments and I love their independent nature ha. My first pet was a Doberman Pinscher though. On a related note though if you have a stranger near your house you would want the dog to bark and I've never seen any dogs eat furniture or shoes or books. Let us not go 100% for cats since cats have furballs and scratch your furniture. ;P

They are also the only animal that uniquely responds to man. There are new studies that have come out about just how unique the relationship that man and canine have in the animal kingdom. I watched a new docuмentary recently that was very good. I wish that I could remember the title. When a human "pets" a dog, oxytocin is released in both the human and the dog. This is the same hormone that is released when mothers breast feed with their babies. It calms both human and animal and starts the bonding process. This doesn't happen with human or any other animal as far as I am aware. God truly made "dog" to be a friend to man.
