  • I used to be a "Child of Mary" for the TFP's America Needs Fatima organization. A "Child of Mary" is someone who promised to give a certain amount of money a month. Anyway, I stopped giving a year ago because I wanted to give to other Catholic causes. Well, yesterday, I received a call from a TFP member/spokesperson/or whatnot, informing me that I had stopped giving and if I would please start giving on a monthly basis again. The whole experience was like that I get from telemarketers - even down to the being switched to another operator once I agreed to send monthly and getting a recorded voice said, "This call may be monitored for security purposes," or something like that. I was switched over to another operator so the operator can verify my address and get my credit card information. Anyway, I got pressurred into agreeing to send monthly payment of $10 because I was caught by surprise by the phone call.

I have never heard of Catholic organizations calling by phone if a person stopped giving money. Doesn't this seem odd?

  • In a word yes, if they did that to me I would refuse on principle, sounds to much like a business to me, which in my opinion is wrong, plus it makes you wonder how prudent they are spending your donations if they have got such a professional telemarketing setup which is what this sounds like, such things don't usually come for cheap.
