  • The character in Dexter is someone who has suffered childhood trauma and cannot feel emotion. Does he go to Hell?

  • Yes.

The show Dexter is a perfect example of Humean morality, where morality is determined by empathy and left to the whims of emotion rather than the natural law.

Not to mention that the main character has erected himself as judge, jury and executioner of who he deems to be evil, and while they very well may be, it is all a ruse to sate his homicidal lust.

Probably better to not watch the show.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • So, if someone is a sociopath, does that mean he is probably dammed?

  •  It's not that their lacking empathy that would send them to hell, it's their deception and manipulation of others to exploit them.
Apart from taking justice in his own hands Dexter is TV they only goes after cold case bad guys.  IRL destroy the lives of people who are good and innocent. It's the victim's formed conscience & sense of responsibility they use to keep them under their thumb.

TV Series like Dexter are PR for the Anti-Christ. They take a very bad guy, and turn Him into a Hero, that way people start to think that "sometimes North is South".

There are Vampires who are portrayed as lead Characters from Soap Operas, that is fantasy, but more of the same anyway. "Evil could be good" seems to be the indoctrinating lesson for the masses to learn.

The list of Films or TV Series using this same recipe could be very long, but what I find interesting is that this "sudden twist" on story writing is quite recent.

I remember my childhood, back then, Vampires, Zombies, Werewolves, and demons were all always the bad guys, and there were NO exceptions. We just looked forward to see them killed, there was no dialogue, no conversion, no middle way, just a stake to the heart or a silver bullet.

Those days are gone, and something very bad must be coming soon. I think the masses are being quickly and intensely indoctrinated, so they would accept the worst bad guy ever.

And my answer is YES, Dexter would wind up on a very warm corner of Hell.

  • This is why the "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" series are so very dangerous.  They make evildoers look sympthetic, even morally superior in some ways.

  • Shifting gears a little bit.

If someone is mentally ill, are they responsible for all of there actions? Assuming they have tried exorcism already.

That is a very difficult question, as we do not know to what degree the character of Dexter Morgan internally is capable of supernatural intellect, the faculty which man utilizes in the discernment of good and evil.  Dexter exhibits mature psychopathy, specifically what would've been known in past decades as impulsive psychopathy, in that his "dark passenger" as he refers to it is said to be the source of an overwhelming need to cause physical harm, to the point that suppressing it causes severe distress.

However, it is established in the third book of Jeff Lindsay's series that the "dark passenger" is in fact alien to Dexter, implied to be an offspring or servant of Ammonite deity Moloch, to whom children were offered in h0Ɩ0cαųst.  That being the case, this would likely be a case of demonic infestation, though whether simply oppression or outright possession is also a matter of debate.

As with all mental illness, the question of moral culpability is not easily discernible in the case of psychopaths.  A sound mental state is an implicit indication of free will, insofar as the exercise of the supernatural intellect is absolutely necessary for the discernment of good and evil and therefore culpability, and a human whose conscience has been rendered mute by illness is incapable of that exercise.

For sure "the dark passenger" isn't welcome in heaven, if Dexter is possessed, He can't make it into heaven.

Before Columbus arrived to the American Continent, what do you think was happening with the souls of the Shamans that were performing Human Sacrifices?

Personally, I think they are in Hell, and many parallels can be made between them, and Dexter (if Dexter is possessed).

I think if someone saw a  psychopath IRL there would be no doubt.

Because a sociopath is mentally ill they are not culpable for the calculated lying and controlling others to exploit them?

To modify this  - if they saw them over a period of time.

  • The books are  different than the TV series and actually more revealing to  the dark intent behind it.   The TV series claims his dark passenger is purely psychological, the result  of a childhood trauma. However, the books claims his  dark passenger is a real manifestation.   Toward the end of the book we learn Dexter's dark passenger is actually related to an ancient deity named Moloch.  There are some very dark forces at work here. Dexter is a very popular cable show and millions watch it.
