    • Abp. Lefebvre gave a sermon to the Avrillé convent in 1981, in which he said (PDF p. 5 of this):

    Do the SSPX religious technically not take solemn (public) vows?

    • No.  The SSPX priests do not take vows.

    I'm asking about the religious (e.g., nuns) affiliated with the SSPX, not SSPX priests (although there are SSPX priests who become Benedictines, Dominicans, etc.).

    • Yes, the brothers and sisters in the SSPX take vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. I am not completely sure, but I think these vows would have to be "private".

    Whether they are "public" or "private" is a canonical distinction. Vows can also be classified as "solemn" or "simple". "Solemn" and "public" are similar but are not exactly the same thing.

    These are not, strictly, "SSPX religious".  They are, as you note above, affiliated with the SSPX.  Religious will take vows according to the Rule of their order, congregation, etc.
