  • Just curious.  Not any of the "regulars" here, of course, but those who profess not to be Catholic yet "Christian".  Lots of them over at CAF, but I do not recall any of them coming here, at least lately.

  • Well some people consider "Feeneyites" to be heretics and some people consider "Cushingites" to be heretics, but both of those groups are allowed here. And we had one poster named Alex who converted to Eastern "Orthodoxy" but after his conversion he didn't post much.

  • I'm a "catechumen", so to speak.

I received a doubtful Protestant baptism.

I don't consider 99% of non-Catholic "Christians" Christian at all**.

They are perhaps practicing a Christian-ism, but they are not Christians.

Christian literally means "Christ one"... like Christ. That comes from the sanctifying power of the Holy Ghost, which non-Catholics cannot be at all sure to have.

** The people I know whom I consider "Christian", yet not Catholic, are a VERY, VERY few who are in the Protestant/evangelical world, yet not beholden to their traditions. These people are genuinely interested in pursuing the truth wherever it takes them. I am aware, as are they, that it is no simple task to simply leave the Prot world and go "be Catholic", what with all the confusion and danger to souls presented by the Conciliarists in Newchurch.

Yes, I know I'm choosing a "liberal" definition of the word "Christian" here, but I dare say it is MUCH better to see these people as humble, sincere and on their way to cooperating with Divine grace than it is to either leave them in their former errors or condemn them altogether because they have not arrived yet.

All that to say this: I'm not Catholic, "officially", yet. Am I a Christian at all?

    DING! DING!

     :boxer:
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar

I guess you could be considered a catechumen. I would guess that no you are not yet a christian but you will become one when you are baptized. However, if your doubtful protestant baptism was valid, then you are already a christian.

  • Well, I am sure there are some who wonder about me.

    And what is a "Cushingite"?
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • Wow Stephen Francis, I did not know that. I went back to read a few of your posts out of curiosity and you certainly put this "official Catholic" to shame with your knowledge, tact and edifying style. You said in your introduction post two years ago that a full conversion was complicated but I hope you are able to settle it soon! That's a long time to go uncertain if you are truly baptized or not. You sure seem to have it in your soul, it would be good to make it official too.
