Besides the superficial differences (they spoke with an English accent back then), are there ANY differences, as far as how much freedom we have, how accountable government is, etc?
It seems to me that WHATEVER freedom we gained back then has been lost at this point.
Today, government can do whatever it wants -- it is huge, powerful, and can tax us how and when it wants to. We really have no redress, etc.
In fact, I'd say we're MUCH WORSE OFF now, because at least back then people could think, were rational, etc.
Now everyone is controlled by TV and mass media -- and mass consumerism and immorality keeps everyone "dumb and happy" and they don't care. No one participates in government anymore -- few people care. SO much ignorance today, compared to then. I always marvel when I read about how people were hundreds of years ago.
