  • Besides the superficial differences (they spoke with an English accent back then), are there ANY differences, as far as how much freedom we have, how accountable government is, etc?

It seems to me that WHATEVER freedom we gained back then has been lost at this point.

Today, government can do whatever it wants -- it is huge, powerful, and can tax us how and when it wants to. We really have no redress, etc.

In fact, I'd say we're MUCH WORSE OFF now, because at least back then people could think, were rational, etc.

Now everyone is controlled by TV and mass media -- and mass consumerism and immorality keeps everyone "dumb and happy" and they don't care. No one participates in government anymore -- few people care.  SO much ignorance today, compared to then. I always marvel when I read about how people were hundreds of years ago.

  • One modern law that really irks me, which I'm surprised the American people haven't risen up in arms against the government, is the inheritance tax (I don't know what the legal name for it is). This is the tax you have to pay for when you receive the inheritance your dead loved one. This is the extra money that your parent saved all throughout their life, money that they already paid tax on, and now you have to pay tax on money that has already been taxed! I think it is a new law, only about no more than 60 years or something like that, and that Clinton wanted to end this tax (or was it Bush?). I don't believe in cheating the government from taxes, but this is one tax that I would refuse to pay. If I had amassed an inheritance for my children (not that I am ever going to be married and have children anyway), I would make sure that my children received all the money without them having to pay the tax on it (I was told my some rich man that there are ways of doing this).

  • '...Chant's argument about the protocols probably being genuine.'

I've heard it put (I dont remember when or where), that it doesnt really matter whether or not the protocols are 'genuine', since they describe exactly what is happening and has happened.
