I have 56 nieces and nephews and none of them have. Neither have any Trads I know except, perhaps, where the father of the bride was a nutter. But I don't know of any specific cases of that either. I am just postulating that the nutters I know might object to any male courting their daughter, unless they are the same flavour of nutbar and a brown nose in which case they will get on like a house on fire. For a while at least.

Gregg's behavior is disgusting, but what do you expect from a liberal. I don't agree with much of what he writes as my families experiences and his are vastly different. It is probably that I come from an atheistic Jєωιѕн American background and he comes from a liberal English one. I find his advice to be laughable at times and this may be due to the fact that I am not poor. I live well and have never suffered financial privation, so I guess I wouldn't fit the loser trad caricature that he has created. His theology as written is heterodox in many areas and he seems to enjoy goading one specific person out of malice. He really is behaving like a gαy man or a women whose advances have been spurned.

This thread is beyond my depth. I don't understand it.

Does the FBI or CIA monitor this forum as well? If I were paranoid, i'm not really sure what difference it would make.

I've known Telesphorus online for over 3 years -- ever since he joined.

I can see that he has serious issues to work out in his own personal and spiritual life. I can't let that affect how I run my forum TOO much, or people are going to cry foul.

I read through much of the offending posts (but not all of them -- if you have a particular one you think needs moderating, please bring it to my attention), and I saw a pretty heated but balanced argument going on.

Ggreg was mean in some of his posts, but come on -- as if Telesphorus doesn't lose his temper once in a while? I've seen some of the posts that come from his keyboard, including during this online fist-fight. Besides, I deleted many of those "offending posts" and meanwhile Ggreg was willing to cool it.

And for all you armchair moderators, it's not as simple as you think. Who should I ban? Not everyone agrees. One of the surviving posts of Ggreg, (which starts out with a bunch of racial epithets/slang terms) has 5 thumbs up and 5 thumbs down. And that was AFTER I thumbed it down! So 50% of those who care LOVE his post, and the other half who care HATE it. So do I give him an accolade or a beating?

That's why a forum can't be run by committee. You're just going to have to trust my moderating ability. You vote for it with your feet. Either stay, in which case you admit it's the best (though imperfect) forum out there, or you go find a better one (good luck! If it has Trads, it will have the same problems, I PROMISE you.)

I think CathInfo can handle one or two members that are more liberal. Do you really think they're going to overwhelm the hundreds of other members? Anyhow, I'm not stupid. I keep an eye on things, and when members start becoming liberal because of them, that's when they get banned. Not before.

There are dozens of "pearls of wisdom" one has to learn or acquire before a person can run a forum wisely. Some things you learn from experience. Everyone wants to be an armchair moderator, but it takes more skill than you think.

Long story short: I've done an adequate job of running CathInfo these past 6 years, and I see no reason to start doubting my ability. The current popularity, reputation, and reach of CathInfo speaks for itself.

You've been a member for 8 months. I've known Telesphorus much longer than that. For example, I've dealt with this very situation before -- several times. I've also dealt with several "lynchings", including at least one Telesphorus lynching, wherein I defended him and lost a few members. You weren't around then, so you probably didn't know that (unless Telesphorus told you).

Why would that even factor into your consideration?

A group of fisheaters posters and long time posters with grudges (the ones who have given me over 5000 negative votes) uprates a trash post.

If some of these people were on cable, they'd probably get better ratings than Chris Matthews and "Hardball". Chris Matthews says he's a "Catholic", but he's more MSNBC than anything else. His ratings are as bad as Rachel Maddow's.

I wouldn't be surprised if underlings from Homeland Security folllow traditional Catholic forums, etc.

It's a fact, Tele.

Yes, we can handle the real world -- as long as the liberals don't overrun the forum, we can handle a few dissenting voices.

You can't have a large, popular forum without some kind of variety. A small group of friends or extremely-similar Catholics will max out at around 150 members (and I'm not talking about ACTIVE members, either).

I'm not making this up. I've actually looked at some of them personally. Look at all the FE split-offs.

Fora without any controversy or variety tend to die the death anyhow. A small, intimate "club" is not the same thing as a forum.

Regarding Caminus -- he is welcome to re-join at his leisure.

You have a high rep score, but it's because you post a lot and you are usually on the right side. It doesn't mean you're perfect or that you don't have issues to deal with. Don't let your rep score go to your head.
