I've met plenty of neocath / neotrad types who foolishly conflate Catholic Tradition with American Neoconservatism, some in my own family, I'm sorry to say.
These poor deluded souls think that being a Traditional Catholic in America is pretty much exactly like being a conservtive "Evangelical" Protestant in America, and so they comport themselves intellectually, politically and aesthetically like their "conservative" Protestant neighbors.
They don't read Catholic political and moral philosophy because they don't believe it can or should apply to a Catholic living in America. They believe - like their Protesdtant compatriots - in "American Exceptionalism." They eschew Traditional Catholic criticisms of democracy, laissez-faire capitalism, libertarianism, and Zionism because these don't jibe well with whatever garbage they ingest on a daily basis from Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levine, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck or Charles Krauthammer - figures who, like the professional athletes, they follow and bond over with their Prod buddies.
In short, they want to fit in... and imagine the scandal if their Baptist neighbor ever got wind of what Rerum Novarum has to say about the glorious, rugged Calvinistic individualism of The Free Market? Baptist Neighbor is fine with opposing Darwinism in the classroom, but not in the realm of economics. So the Neocath, in order to keep the peace and not spoil the neighborhood barbecue, will agree to jettison Catholic Social Justice in favor of a mealy-mouthed, watered-down "social conservatism" that he and Bill the Baptist can agree on over a few beers and a ballgame. It's a very short route from there to "Rah rah Israel! I'm so sorry my Church produced a rabid αnтι-ѕємιтє like St John Chrysostom! I'll never pray to him again, I promise!"
So, no, I don't think we're dealing with undercover trolls trying to subvert the forum. There's no need for that - I know these creatures. They are, lamentably, legion. They are just what Pope Leo XIII warned prelates in this nation about more than a century ago - they are Americanists.
