  • So, it seems I go through this every so often but this Crisis just gets the best of me.  Something's missing.  I know the Conciliar Church is not the answer, but something's missing.  It certainly doesn't help that I can't get to the True Mass every week.  I can only get there once every few months. The news about the "pope" depresses me and I see no end in sight.  It seems as if it really doesn't matter what your "position" is when it comes down to it.  It just plain sucks.

Please tell me that y'all go through this .  What do you do to remain positive?
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

  • I just try go to Latin mass whenever I can, it is the highlight of my week.

What is your situation? Are you single / married? Can you move house to get to a mass?
    Do you have work commitments?

I was nearly going to move to get to a mass, but i decided to stay where I am and travel at great expense instead, because the town the church is located in is full of criminals.

  • Married.  Moving is not an option.  We have one diocesan TLM, but I doubt the validity of the priest.  And he's pro-VII.

  • Try to find out if the priests at the local indult are ordained in the old rite, or at least one of them. If they are then start going to the indult.

Maybe you could look out for any Catholic groups or societies that you could join. It would be a chance to talk to other trads in person every now and again. That would help. There must be something within travel distance.

You also have good rail and bus networks in the US, if you do some research you might be able to get to a trad group and back.

(When I go to mass I get 3 taxis and 2 trains)

  • I try to pray a lot of short vocal prayers from the heart, like, 'Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, help us.'

If things get really bad I ask a bunch of people to pray for me, and that always helps too.

I also avoid reading news about the crisis when I'm already down as I know it's not going to make me feel any better.

'If you practice the holy exercise of Spiritual Communion a good many times each day, within a month you will see yourself completely changed.'

I dont know how to make a spiritual communion, but my mother ( who is not Catholic ) tells me to watch the mass on the internet instead of spending loads of money to get there. I disagree.

  • A mass on the TV is not the same thing, yes.

You say a prayer like the following. There are more than one. Here, now you know how. They are consoling too.

    Act of Spiritual Communion
by St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

    Jesus Christ my Savior,
    I believe that You
are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
    receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

'A spiritual communion, according to Saint Thomas, consists in an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament, and in lovingly embracing Him as if we had actually received Him.'

    St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

'Any Devout Person, may at any Hour, on any Day, Receive Christ in Spiritual Communion, Profitably and without Hindrance. . . For as often as he Devoutly calls-to Mind, the Mystery and Passion of the Incarnate Christ, and is Inflamed-with Love for Him, he Communicates Mystically, and is Invisibly Refreshed.'

    Thomas à Kempis

'In this golden ciborium I put your Sacramental Communions. In this silver ciborium I put your Spiritual Communions. Both ciboriums are quite pleasing to Me.'

Our Lord Jesus Christ, to St. Catherine of Siena
    Sincerely,

    Shin

  • It can be very difficult to keep your spirits up if you don't have regular access to the sacraments.

Making a spiritual communion is good advice.

I would say prayer life is essential; saying the rosary daily and praying the Missal when you can't get to Mass on Sunday.

Maybe limiting time on forums if reading about the craziness of Francis and the Conciliar Church upsets you, or at least avoid those kind of threads.

Have you contacted any of the Traditional groups to see if they have any Masses in your area, sometimes priests travel to say Mass for small groups? CMRI, SSG, SSPX? I don't know how you feel about SSPV, but I know they are prevalent in the north east, i.e., New York.

Other than that, just make a pilgrimage as often as you can: twice a month, once a month, every six weeks, or whatever to the nearest traditional chapel.

I never complain about my 120 mile round trip to Mass each week, because I know there are so many people in your situation that don't have regular access to the Mass.

  • I remember that Jesus told Peter, "I give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven. Those whose sins you hold bound on Earth will be held bound in Heaven. Those whose sins you hold loosed on Earth will be held loosed in Heaven. And the gates of Hell shall not prevail." and then later he said, "Behold I will be with you until the end of the ages."
It was Jesus who promised. He shall not fail.

  • I was disappointed lately with the outcome of our local elections which was the first after the abortion legislation last year.  There was a huge rise on the left.

I was looking out the window and wondering when oh when will it stop then I realised (not through my own genius ) that what happened is not mine to be disappointed with, what happened is Gods plan and so I gave my disappointment to Him.

    Does that make sense.

When your feeling low picture yourself  handing your sadness to into Jesus cupped hands for him to turn to grace.

Stop reading bad news or listening to it.  We do not need to know every silly utterance of  the Pope or Liberals or anyone for that matter.

If I could get to Mass, I would make an effort to listen to some of these sermons here:

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, you have a 1st world infrastructure, so dont talk BS to me, you also have no excuse for missing mass unless you live in the wilderness.

That's a good suggestion. Traditional Catholic Sermons is a great site. The internet is a two edged sword. It can depress us, if we are always reading negative stories or it can uplift us and be used as a tool to fill in the gaps when we can't always be at Mass.

At http://www.sgg.org/  they broadcast their Masses live and I'm sure other Trad Chapels may do so as well. So you can watch a traditional Mass on Sunday and follow along in you Missal. I know it's not the same thing as going to Mass, but it helps.

Listening to traditional sermons and radio broadcasts as well. There's a ton of traditional Catholic sermons here http://mostholytrinityseminary.org/sermons.html

Have you heard of True Restoration Radio Network? http://www.blogtalkradio.com/restorationradio

Lots of good Catholic content in these radio broadcasts.

Obviously these do not take the place of assisting at Mass and receiving the sacraments, but they do help to fill in gaps between times when we can actually have access to the sacraments.
