  • Muslims often bring up scientific accuracies in the Qu'ran as proof of the verity of their religion.

First of all, is this besides the point? Is this just a red herring that needs to be avoided?

Second, does this mean that if there is a single scientific inaccuracy in the Koran then Mohammedanism is false?

These are the main points that Mohammedans use for this argument:

  • It's a ridiculous argument that confounds the natural and supernatural orders.  They're essentially implying that anyone who gets natural physical science right, their religion must be right too.  This is manifestly false.

The means by which God confirms His revelation is by miracles and prophecy, in other words, things that no man has the natural capacity to accomplish.  Otherwise, the credibility would be derived from man and he could say whatever he wanted.

  • They claim that Mahomet's knowledge of the workings of the universe are miraculous.

So the claim is not that because the scientific facts found in the Koran are true, the religious claims must be true as well, but the purely gratuitous assertion that he received this knowledge through a miraculous means?  Or both?  If you can get a quote, we can examine it.

  • This was the exact question that was posed to me:

How can I know that Islam is from the Devil is there is so much scientific proof for it?

  • In other words, this particular argument goes something like: It was humanly impossible for Mahomet to have such intimate understanding of the creation and nature of the universe and Earth, therefore he must be a true prophet.

ExMormon can elaborate if he wishes.

  • The short answer is that Mohomet stole it from Moses.  This is beside the fact that it is just a poor argument.

I realize that it is a frail argument, especially since one can just answer that the Devil revealed it to him; but where in the Holy Bible are there similar passages as the one in that link?

  • Their argument actually rests upon the authority of the scientist and in reality, they are just giving their best guess.  So in effect they are saying, "Hey, Mohomet thought what we think about this subject, ergo he must have received this knowledge from God."  Pretty self-serving, eh?

Regarding Moses, any truths that he adhered to regarding the creation of the universe was gleaned from Genesis.
