  • LOL... while MRSA is pretty scary and resistant to most drugs, vancomycin usually takes care of it.  What can be done?  When doctors, nurses, etc enter the patient's room (this should include visitors as well), they wash their hands before, put on their protective personal equipment including a gown and gloves, and when they leave, they must wash their hands again.  To decrease resistance of pathogens, when one is presecribed a antibiotic, they must keep taking it for the full course even if they feel better.  It usually does not even affect normal healthy people, only those who are sick and immunocompromised.  What is scary is community aquired- MRSA, but from what I remember, there have only been two deaths, and the school where they (or one of them) was from was closed and disinfected.

  • MRSA is a real problem here in the UK too. Whole hospitals have been closed (temporarily) as a result of repeated outbreaks of the disease.

Sadly, it is the elderly who suffer the most because there is very little concern for the elderly here. The majority of deaths due to in-hospital infections are elderly people, and the figures are very rarely reported accurately. We have some excellent doctors and some very highly dedicated to their profession, but the statistics show that these must be in the minority due to the appauling treatment many older people receive in hospitals today. There have been many cases of outright abuse suffered by people that my family have known- in one case an elderly lady went into hospital because she had fallen and broken her hip. Her mobility was impaired but her health was at no critical risk. She was left for long periods of time without any attention and developed severe bed sores which became infected due to poor hospital hygiene and died shortly afterwards. My grandfather died in hospital in agony because the nurses simply hadn't bothered to read the notes and thus didn't see that he was severely allergic to the morphine they were giving him. One poor old lady i came across in one of my jobs was in terrible pain after an operation to remove some cancer. The hospital told her it was all in her mind until her son found her collapsed in her home. She had been haemoraging (sp?) for two months and further investigation revealed that the doctor had accidentally (!) removed her spleen.

I honestly believe that infections such as MRSA and eColi would be eradicated if only more doctors remembered the hypocratic oath and saw patients as people instead as beds to be freed up as soon as possible.

Umm...OK.  Thing is, MRSA for the most part is found only in hospitals and nursing homes.  It's not running rampant among the population.

I would like to disagree with you on this point since I have been dealing with MRSA for the past 3 weeks. I acquired it from working at an ART MUSEUM NOT A HOSPITAL. In my area alone there have been over twenty five confirmed cases in the last week with many more being reported each day.

Well, at least we have a time frame now.  Thing is, staph, while dangerous, is the most dangerous to those with weakened immune systems.  That is usually considered to be the elderly and the very young, but in reality, anyone who is still caught in the thrall of the anti-foods that our culture has wholeheartedly embraced has done great damage to their bodies and their immune systems.  If you want to avoid diseases like this, stop sitting around being scared and start eating food the way God made it instead of the way man has made it.

Actually it is not those with weakened immune systems in our area. The majority of a local high school football team have caught this terrible thing. As for the food, that has nothing to do with it. I eat mostly fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Your logic is severely flawed in this regard.

I'm sick of hearing about all the super germs and cancers and heart disease and diabetes and all the other problems we have brought upon ourselves by turning away from God and worshipping the Idols of Science and Modern Medicine and Easy Food and Kill the Bugs and Kill the Weeds and Watch TV...

God has always made it clear: you worship Idols, you pay for it in the end.  Our modern life is filled with Idols, and they are cleverly disguised.  Root them out, and have no mercy.

I do not worship idols. I go to Mass every Sunday and as many times during the week as I am able. I have never turned away from God but by your extremely silly and inane reasoning, I deserve this because according to you I could have only caught this because I am an idol worshiping fast food science junkie. Yeah right...

  • In my area, the cases have been among junior high aged boys who are involved with sports.  My oldest was sent home with a letter from school about it the other day (he's 6).  It stressed the importance of cleaning out all cuts/scrapes, and keeping them clean.

The boys are not cleaning their sports equipment well enough, and while playing get cuts/scrapes they think are nothing and don't bother to clean.  None of the boys in my area who caught it have died, but one is still in the hospital.

  • I agree with Veritas on this one --

It's not just fast-food junkies, people with non-Catholic lifestyles, and TV watchers that need to "watch their back" on superbugs like this -- OR I WOULDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!

There are plenty of maladies that good Catholics escape -- many psychological and emotional problems, for instance, that are escaped by following God and the Church's laws, being open to the children God sends you, not giving kids everything they want, not having a TV in the home, etc.

But some evils are suffered by THE GOOD AS WELL AS THE BAD. For example, the Great Depression II, Pestilence, Famine, War, Martial Law. For these things, we can only make very small and incomplete preparations.

Most preparations for these things involve preparing our souls!

    God bless,

    Matthew

  • It sounds like I need to start by apologizing.  Going back over my initial post, I sound a bit deranged, don't I?

I am very sorry to hear that; however, I must point out that fitness and health are not necessarily the same thing.

I must disagree.  Food has everything to do with it when it comes to being healthy.  I am glad to hear that you eat well, but you are in a distinct minority.  Also, the SAD (Standard American Diet) has not only taken a deathward spiral, but the fact that it has been bad for at least two generations means that the children are truly suffering for the "sins" of their parents.  Kids are not being born with the immune system that God intended them to have because their parents (and sometimes even grandparents) have harmed themselves without even realizing it, and not necessarily by informed choice.

The attack was not personal.  We as a culture do worship idols.  When we read in the Bible that the Jєωs turned away from God and began worshipping idols, certainly there were Noahs and Lots among them.  Isn't that exactly what we are here talking about?  Our culture is utterly in the thrall of Satan.  That is why

are coming.  We (not personally but as a culture) have deserved it.

I did not do a good job of writing my post, and I'm not doing a lot better now, in part because there is so much that I have learned about nutrition in the past 3 years that flies in the face of modern medicine--it is impossible to go into detail without writing a book--and even if I did, most people would still say I was crazy, even though I have seen people healed of all types of illnesses by applying these nutritional principles.

But Matthew, I must close by pointing out that if you are faithful to God, and I believe that you--and most of those who read this board--are, then YOU REALLY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.

Because the Great Depression II, Pestilence, Famine, War, Martial Law are coming.  Some of us will survive it and wish we had not.  Eternity is really the only thing that matters.  At this point, if God decides to take me to him and spare me the suffering that is to come, so be it.  I know that I will have to pay for my past sins one way or another, but if God wants me to be one of those who will endure the Chastisement to come, I will do it.  In my deranged way, it is my very strong belief that He is preparing us to endure these hardships, and I refuse to be afraid.

I'm rambling now, I better go to bed before I get myself into more trouble.  Isn't there a smilie over there that puts its foot in its mouth?

  •  This problem has also spread to schools, I might add (sorry if someone else said it before, my eyes hurt too much to read all of the posts).

It's definitely a problem in more places than just hospitals. I believe this is what someone I know had (and almost died of) after contracting it at a hotel (they believe from a hot tub).

At the nursing home where a relative recently had it, they are now  providing visitors with hand sanitizer but... not sure if that can kill those germs or not. It is rather unsettling but... what can we do? Go around with a scientist and test every surface we have to come into contact with? The problem is probably more widespread than the media wants to admit, but they've already said more people have died of this than AIDS (this year? I don't recall...)

When things like this come up, I always have to remind myself of two things.

    1) the most important precaution we can take is to secure the state of our souls to the best of our abilities, so it doesn't matter WHEN we go, and

    2) Christ told us pretty explicitly to trust Him.

There are plenty of ways we could die, not the least of which is the epidemic of (realistically) underage teen drivers on cell phones (and who knows what else). One could go quite mad thinking of all the very common and very real threats we face every day without batting an eye. However most of us are more likely to get hit by the underage teen on their cell phone than we are to contract this virus. (Most of us don't have to go into places like hospitals or shopping malls, but we DO have to drive on the streets with some pretty incredible lunatics.)

Unfortunately, in addition to worrying about how we might die, we also have to LIVE. The best "insurance" is procured by talking to your local "agent" through a grille, and cementing the deal with something more precious than gold.
I renounce any and all of my former views against what the Church through Pope Leo XIII said, "This, then, is the teaching of the Catholic Church ...no one of the several forms of government is in itself condemned, inasmuch as none of them contains anythi
