Sorry Dylan if I put you on the wrong track but the source for the info that St Augustine was an Italian is James Walsh-- What Civilisation Owes Italy=== not C. Dawson as I had mistakenly posted.

That's alright roscoe. I'll look into that. But, the Catholic Encyclopedia say that St. Augustine was born in Thasgate in North Africa and the Encyclopedia Americana says that he was of Berber (Numidian) descent.
