  • My baby was baptised today. I feel a sense of relief.

Now the worrier in me begins. Please pray that we can raise her a good strong, devout Catholic, especially in today's world.

There are so many challenges now and I was probably the last generation, judging by the economy, to have a decent standard of living on a normal family income. So, schools are terrifying to me, yet Catholic schooling seems either heretical or expensive or both. Then we are left with homeschooling, which is daunting in its own right, for a few reasons. Someday however, she'll have to enter this world to try to marry and raise her own family, school my grandkids etc.

I just think they will have it so much harder. Even if she enters the religious life she'll be challenged by pantsuit nuns perhaps, the Faith is in vestiges and even we have to drive to get a TLM (or Tridentine baptism), how far will she have to drive? Most importantly, will she??

I worry about my kids keeping the Faith after we've struggled so hard to find and maintain it, please pray for Philomena, [both my girls actually :) ]

  • Think of the challenges you mentioned as your cross to bear.

There's no substitute for developing a strong, active and pious prayer life.  Pray when you feel despair.

Take it upon yourself to instruct your children in the catechism - don't leave it to others.

As long as you and your wife are traditional Roman Catholics and you set a holy example, you will have done your part.

    Sincerely.

P.S. - I love the fact that you named your daughter Philomena!  That's beautiful.

  • You chose a powerful patron saint for your daughter.  Your baby girl is in good hands with such a patroness.

Ah, yes, the worries of a parent.  The worries never end and they can grow!

Do your best to keep your girls away from the temptations of the world that can come into your home through the TV and the internet, books and guests.  Protect their purity by dressing them modestly.  Pray the family Rosary every day and 3 Hail Mary's at Morning and Night prayers with the intention of asking for Our Lady's protection from the world, the flesh and the devil, to be preserved from all sin and for final perseverance.

Talk to them (even the baby) about Our Lady and their saints and angels.  Bless them with Holy Water.  Read stories of the saints to them.  Teach them to offer sacrifices to Jesus and Mary in reparation for sins.  You can start this at a vey young age by simply saying "All for Thee dear Jesus" when they cry from getting hurt like falling down or getting their fingers pinched.  As they hear this prayer, it will become second nature to them to offer this prayer of sacrifice to Jesus. Give them the example of a holy Catholic marriage, centered on your precious Catholic Faith.

If you are not now near the Mass and the Sacraments, do whatever you can to do so.

Best wishes to you and your family and Congratulations on your daughter's Baptism.

  • I love what each one has written here.

May Christ have mercy on us.

Liberal use of Holy Water can't hurt, either.

  • First of all congrats and thank God he has blessed your life with a beautiful daughter, I don't know if she's your first, but there's a special relationship between a father and his little girl. Mine came  into the world after two boys and she has literally been the light of my life ever since.

I also believe she is fortunate to have a dad so concerned like yourself, that is so critical these days and you will see how important it is one day. I have heard that what a girl or young lady looks for in a husband someday is a man like her father, especially if he is of pious and noble character, remember, how you carry yourself will be the measuring stick she will expect from the men who would be close to her someday. It never ceases to amaze me how some men conduct themselves in front of their children, especially the girls, smoking and drinking and swearing like absolute Godless pagans and then complain when their daughters are in total rebellion someday and wind up with a man worse than themselves. I don't really believe in their heart they're a bit surprised.

I think you know this all very well and will be the difference in her life, don't worry about the world, the world was always in rebellion to God and his ways, nothing's really changed and it's not really worse now than in the time of Christ. Just stay close to God's laws and she should be fine.

Train a child in the way and he will not depart from it as the bible says or even better in the Hebrew translation it's says " It will not depart from him (her)."

God bless you and your daughter.
