1. I keep banning him, including blocking his IP address, but as some of the more technical among you are already aware, he gets around this by using a VPN. There is no way around this. All I can do is keep banning him.
To Ladislaus: I understand your frustration, but I'm certain I said this plainly YEARS ago, and even within the past 6 months. I thought it was obvious, and that you already know this. But for some strange reason you wanted me to say it explicitly again. Ok, here you go! See point #1.
2. Downvotes of Croix sock puppets ("latest incarnations") are COMPLETELY irrelevant. Yes, they will appear part of your total vote count forever, at least until I write a script to re-count all the vote totals from scratch, but the votes themselves are deleted. And the LATEST, ACTUAL count of downvotes in the database is what is used for upvote/downvote limiting calculations. That is the important part.
3. I repeat: Croix is totally impotent to affect your reputation one iota. His downvotes won't "dilute" your existing pile of downvotes, allowing others to give you more downvotes before they are limited, etc.
4. I regularly run a script -- which means "no human error or effort" -- which takes ALL banned CathInfo members and:
A) Deletes all their up/downvotes
B) Deletes all their anonymous posts
I don't have to remember each banned user -- the database goes through and does ALL of them automatically.
Why? What do these things have in common? They are anonymous, and I don't want non-members (CI ex-members, or those who are NOT members in good standing) to contribute to the ANONYMOUS zeitgeist of CathInfo. Named posts are different, because there is no "nameless, faceless CathInfo" -- every single post has a name, and the posts are attributed to the authors. Only an idiot would attribute them to "cathinfo" as if the software or website had anything to do with composing them. A post by "John Public" reflects on John Public 100% and Cathinfo about 0%. But anonymous posts could be anybody, which is why I don't allow them to remain once a person is an ex-member.
By the way, any SIGNIFICANT anything has bad apples. Any Church, any nation, any city, any forum -- you can't be significant and not have bad apples in your number. But that's beside the point, because I already made the decision that I don't want Croix on the forum, but he doesn't respect my decision and keeps coming back.
