  • Forgive me if I missed the proper forum. But if somebody could direct me,
My girlfriend is divorced with annulment from the NO order Church, I've attended SSPX fir three years. I've never been married. Do I consider her annulment valid fir purposes of marrying in the Catholic Church (Traditional Catholic Church) Not New Church or NO church.
Thanks to any and all for a little direction on this.

  • This is a very serious question. I think that to get a proper answer to this question you should ask your priest. He should be better qualified to answer your questions than us on this forum.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • I agree with Matto.  This is most definitely a very serious question.

I'm also sure that this forum would be very interested in reading what your SSPX priest has to say on the matter.

  • Thank you so much for your replies, and excuse the spelling errors. (left my glasses)
My biggest problem with SSPX lately is the split with +Fellay's faction, and +Williamson. And the more traditional Priests. What a mess. The SSPX no longer has a commission to deal with annulments, having referred (deferred?) to Rome.
I'm 62 and remember all too well the changes in Holy Church when they changed the annulment process and granted them w/o any "real" reason. Thanks again for your prompt replies, and man, do I love this site.
    God Bless all of you.

I agree with Matto - whether SSPX has a mess going on or not at the moment, one of their priests or pretty much any trad priest should be able to guide or at least offer some sound advice in the matter.

That's about all we have these days.

This is what happens when there is controversy, the innocent suffer.

You should speak to your SSPX priest, but if you have doubts you could try
calling Fr. Pfeiffer and see what he says.  He answers questions like this every
day.  Or call any traditional priest you can trust.  But obviously you have your
doubts about diocese (Novus Ordo) priests, and that is understandable.

This is one of the points in the 6 Conditions, first instance of tribunals.  But after
the 'deal,' then there will be no more SSPX tribunals, if this Condition sticks. Your
case will be open for being overturned in the second or third instance, which will
be controlled by the diocesan bishop.

  • Yeah, good advice.

I wouldn't trust neoSSPX advise now, after they've became "sensitized" to the whims of Consiliarism.

My bet is that the "annulled lady" remains married in the eyes of the traditional Church.

Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

How long was it before you found out she was divorced?

What were the circuмstances or her marriage?

You are in a very dangerous situation when you consider marrying someone whom you are not assured is free to marry.

There is a remote possibility that the annulment was granted for a "real" reason, but you cannot trust NO annulments, though there may be rare exceptions to the rule.

You are better to part company with her until you find out the truth of the matter. If this is a marriage ordained by God it will go ahead. Otherwise the sooner you break off the safer for you both.

    God bless you.

Msgr. Perez (and his parish) is perhaps the finest I've known to date.  You can trust his counsel.
