  • Muslim convert leaves the Church

Lots of points to discuss on this one but I'm posting it because I agree with his take on the Vatican's "play nice" strategy with Muslims - did playing nice get the Muslims out of Spain in the 15th century?

  • It seems like many convert to Catholicism based on what the church was, and not what it is today.

I don't see why he couldn't have criticized the policy (valid criticism) while remaining in the Church. It comes across as more of a publicity stunt than anything else. How do you convert to the One, True, Catholic and Apostolic Church and then say (when leaving it) "I still believe in Jesus." The Jesus he believes in founded the Church that he "feels free" to leave.

I was such a person. Seeing the post-conciliar disarray when I tried to convert (and people like RCIA or nuns, etc try to practically talk me out of it with indifferentist ideas like protestant denominations were fine, etc) almost sent me packing.

Luckily I was able to quickly stumble onto tradition and find out that these ideas were not 'antiquated' notions, but still held by a minority of oddballs called traditionalists, both within the post-conciliar Church and 'outside' (when they incorrectly referred to SSPX 'LeFebvrists' as excommunicated schismatics).

Thank God you found Tradition.  All the RCIA folks I met were spouses converting so that they could worship with their partners or people getting married and needed Confirmation.  Basically, they were converting not because of much thought and discernment, but out of convenience.

It's sad when as a Catholic, you can't recommend your church non Catholics nor trust it's leaders to educate those you love.

Magdi Allam, Prominent Arab Convert to Christianity Leaves Catholic Church Over Its Weakness on Islam

In a shocking display that does not bode well for the Catholic Church and its stance on defending the multitudes of Christians currently being persecuted in Islamic countries, Magdi Christiano Allam, a prominent covert from Islam to Christianity, has left the Catholicism. He reasoned that he could not abide the church’s “weakness” and policy of appeasement towards Islam.

The Egyptian-born Allam, who publicly converted in St. Peter’s Basilica on Easter 2008 with the oversight of Pope Benedict XVI himself, renounced his Catholicism because, in his view, the church legitimizes a religion that is “inherently violent” to people of all walks, including fellow Muslims.

Ever-outspoken, Allam assures that he will remain a Christian, but roundly criticized the Catholic Church for also fostering an environment in which the Islamization of Europe will, in his mind, most assuredly take place.

Translated from the Italian news outlet, Corriere, Allam clarified that his mind had been made up before the new pope was chosen and that the driving factor to leave the church is its of Islam’s place among the monotheistic religions.

“I am convinced,” Allam stated, “that Islam is an ideology inherently violent as it has been historically conflictual inside and warlike outside.”

“I am even more convinced that Europe will eventually be submitted to Islam, as has already happened since the seventh century.”

Allam also criticized the church for not having “the vision and the courage to denounce the incompatibility of Islam with our civilization and fundamental rights of the person.”

  • As much as he likes to protest the "human rights violations" of Islamic nations, he manages to be a fervent supporter of Israel.

He wrote a book called "Long Live Israel" in French and Italian, and I do believe he's been given a few awards by a couple Jєωιѕн institutions for his activism.

I'm pretty sure his apostasy doesn't stem from any kind of conflict of values with those of the conciliar church since he's a social liberal who would like to see the Middle East turned into another liberal society like the US.

Frankly I think he's just trying to make a scene, like a woman who isn't getting her way.
