conversation before the blessed sacrament?

  • In front of the blessed sacrament today I found it difficult to pray, but persevered nonetheless. It is usually custom to stay for one hour. While I was there I was with only one person who spoke to me ( among other things) about how she was waiting for someone to stay in front of the sacrament since her time was finished. I eventually said I would stay if she wanted to go and would wait until someone comes.

For all I knew, I could be there for hours, but then someone came and they came at exactly one hour after I got there. It was not the beginning of an hour but some random time, but it was a strange coincidence.

Since we had spoken before the exposed sacrament, I asked her to stay until I recited Tantum Ergo Sacramentum for respect's sake.

What is the meaning of this?
Was God displeased with me and so would have me leave his presence as soon as possible?
Or was He saying that he demands no extra ordinary suffering of me?
    Or something else?

  • You are lucky to have a valid blessed sacrament to adore. I used to visit the Novus Ordo Blessed Sacrament when I thought it was valid. Now I question its validity so I no longer visit the Novus Ordo Blessed Sacrament.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

It was a novus ordo blessed sacrament, but I thought it was valid ( despite being SV).

The only thing that comes to mind is you could have SUNG the Tantum Ergo instead of just "reciting" it.  But I don't think God would be "displeased" that you didn't sing it.

I don't think he was demanding extrraordinary suffering. Rather he was giving you the gift of an opportunity to grow in holiness by being with Him for an hour.

  • Don't read so much into things, especially negative interpretations.

There's plenty of pressure from the other side for folks to leave the Blessed Sacrament. That's perfectly normal. It's the most valuable time you spend on earth. One should have simple faith about that.

    Sincerely,
