The leader of the Catholic church on the island of Ireland ( ROI and NI ) is to consecrate Ireland to the immaculate heart of Mary on Thursday 15 august.

The cardinal is unpopular for his role in the cover up of child abuse by priests in Ireland. He is said to have told 30 victim children to take a vow of silence.

Anyway, this consecration is something that some tiny Catholic groups have been making leaflets for for years. They think it will save the church and turn everything around.

But can it override the free will of the people who live here who wilfully choose to live contrary to Catholic doctrine?

I don't know whether to go to the NO church nearby because of this. I feel like we have been summoned by the Virgin to assemble in ranks in a show of loyalty.

Ireland recently legislated to allow abortion, and in the next few years will allow gαy marriage. There is much evil done in this country, I hope this consecration helps the faithful who are left here to live holier lives.
