Many libertarians are of the idea that the government should not be involved in deciding whether this or that type of marriage is more correct. They have a live and let live attitude.
Libertarians are not Catholic (I know some libertarians claim to be Catholic). Catholics realize that the governments of the world have a duty to protect the rights of God and enforce morality.
Many Trads support Ron Paul. They believe that governments should not enforce morality
Please consider,
This is not true. This is a great misconception exploited by progressive liberals in the US and always pointed at by pseudo conservatives as a flaw in US law.
The American Bill of Rights forbids the federation of states, or what we know as the Federal government from enforcing morality. Remember it says "
Congress shall make no law". The operative word there is Congress and it is a proper noun. This means the law points at one governmental body alone. It is the federal Congress which is forbidden to enact laws concerning religion and by extension, morality. The power to do so was left to the states. Eight of the 13 original colonies had official religions. Many of these states required membership in the official religion as a requirement to hold office. Sounds like a great idea to me, as long as you live in a Catholic state. The Founding Fathers couldn't have been so duplicitous as to think government had no role in morality and then enact official religions themselves. No, in fact, law
is enacted morality and they had a better grasp of it then we do today. The Massachusetts Constitution of 1780 declared, for example, that "the happiness of a people, and the good order and preservation of civil government, essentially depend on piety, religion and morality." In other words, good moral laws are necessary for the people as well as the government.
Some of the Founders were afraid of the Federal government and so they insisted on many restrictions for it, not their own states.
