    • Same as the traditionalists, but traditionalists are more likely to use the sacrament.

    They like face to face confessions.

    Some of them confessors probably try to use therapists' techniques.

    They generally don't follow Catholic moral theology.  

    There are some who did, but most of those are dead.

    • The NO confessions I went to were stuck to church teaching, and some of the Priests were very tough on me.

    You have the option of going behind the screen or confessing face to face.  I admit I much prefer the face to face and I get nervous  before going into the box at my SSPX chapel.

    • I have generally had good experiences in confession, whether NO, FSSP, or Eastern Rite.  I have received bad advice, or at least advice I thought was bad.  However, I have never had occasion to question the validity of the absolution I received, nor have I ever been told that it was okay to violate any Church teaching.  I am as selective as I can be about confessors, however, and I have a pretty good group to choose from.  Not everyone is so fortunate.

    I think the NO copied the face to face thing from the Eastern Orthodox, who have always done it that way.

    If I were a NO, that would be one of the things to drive me out of their church...that face to face thing!

    • Can't really make any judgements beyond generalizations that assuredly do not fit every case.

    In general though, Novus Ordo attending Catholics that were raised as such are less likely to go to frequent Confession - that much is certain. A large majority may only go once during Lent/Easter; a minority may go every few Saturdays.

    Some priests really won't offer any advice in the confessional at all. They will just say OK and then tell you to make an act of contrition - or they may even just absolve you and assign of penance of simply making a thanksgiving. This is all up to the priest though. Some priests are not this lenient. While the Novus Ordo doesn't really help this, it cannot be said to be the sole cause of leniency either.

    We shouldn't be thinking about how "traditional" the penance assigned to us is when we are being absolved or walking out of the confessional.

    Rather, praise God that he has deigned to give you his holy religion and partake of his graces.
