  • I was just wondering if the method of confessing to an independent priest is any different than confessing to a diocesan priest. Do I need to know Latin or is the form pretty much the same?

(And yes, I'm aware of the jurisdiction issue.)

  • I go to an independent church.

    This is all I do:

Bless me father, for I have sinned, it's been X number of days since my last confession, these are my sins. *say sins*

Then say an act of contrition in english (or latin if you prefer).

In regards to being a responsible man, would it be interesting to learn, after six years of accuмulating all the wisdom you could, that you had it right all alon

  • Oremus- I should be the same as the NO (if thats where you've done confession before)... just like Lybus said. I do my act of contrition in english during my confession.

The sins you confess are the matter; the priest's absolution is the form.  Strictly speaking, you do not even have to say an act of contrition.  Yes, it is both salutary and customary, but confessing your sins is sufficient evidence that you are sorry for having sinned.

  • Don't assume you know that every single independent priest is the same as far as jurisdiction goes. The priest at my church has a celebret he obtained many years ago directly from Rome which gives him permission to say Mass wherever he wants without any permission from the "local ordinary." (Not that if he didn't have a celebret, he wouldn't be saying Mass without their permission anyway, but... you know what I mean.)

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.
