  • I notice in today's Baby Blues, the mother is complaining that she has THREE children, and so her life is a total mess!

On the other hand, I thought Mother Goose and Grimm was pretty funny:

Wow, this is the most pointless thread ever!

  • Interesting, in media and in life interactions, people are stressed out over 2-3 children. My G-mother, had 5-6 in the space of 10 yrs, biggest lull was my uncle (#7) and mother ( #8). One car, one income......
G-mother learned to handle it and deal with it.......

  • Yes, most people (myself included) in this day & age have grown too soft, so that they are unable to endure what their great-grandfathers & grandfathers endured as a matter of course.

The benefit of mortification is of course primarily spiritual, but its effectiveness in inuring one to hardships & the occurrence of unexpected difficulties has been recognised even by unbelievers, such as the psychologist William James.

Many modern people, in their decadence, have reached the point of making the story of the sybarite who could not sleep because there was a crushed rose petal under his sheets reality.

I agree, it is often funny, and usually I enjoy it. Actually, the comic was pretty funny today, but the whole 'I have THREE children, so it's no wonder I've lost my mind!' part just rubbed me the wrong way. Which is not to say that a mother -couldn't- truly be over her head with three children, I'm sure it's happened even to good mothers from time to time. It just seemed like the comic writer was trying to say that having three kids is enough to make one insane, so it's best to avoid it. Comparing apples to apples, the mother of The Family Circus has four kids and yet she seems to be pretty serene. *shrug*
