This Colorado theater massacre is the most senseless thing of this kind I have seen.
Maybe when the details are released from the investigation there will be something
to take note of, but that might not be for 2 or 3 years. There could be a court trial,
and the evidence will be held back until then.
One thing's for sure: it's a 16 theater complex, and it's privately owned, therefore,
the owner is going to go out of business. The theater is shut down for collecting
evidence, and there's no way he could have had sufficient insurance to cover the
length of time he'll be closed. And why would anyone want to go to a movie there
again, after this? Looking for trouble? This theater is now uninsurable, due to the
fact of what has happened. Add to that, a lot of commercial liability insurance
excludes acts of war or civil unrest and the like. You can be sure his insurance
company is looking for every reason NOT to cover him.
And what did the owner do? We don't really know, but if he's like other theater
owners, he's just trying to provide a product, pay his bills, and stay out of BK.
The movies in distribution are being recalled, and the opening scenes that have
some gunfire, and such like violence, are being cut. The entire movie might have to
be re-made, and it will probably never draw the box office receipts it could have if
not for this shooting incident. Everyone whose work went into making and
distributing the film now suffers a loss, and all the film's investors lose big time.
Movie theaters are already very expensive to attend, and it's not a profitable
business to run a theater. I know of several such multi-plexes in my area, and the
managers who run them are of very meager means. They are not prosperous.
If nationwide theaters now have to add security measures (which cost $) then the
already-pricey tickets will get pricier. If you now pay $8-10for a movie, you'd be
paying $11-15. Who, but the really addicted, will keep going?
I know a woman who goes to a movie every day, because she "really likes it."
That's obsession, not enjoyment. $300 a month for movies?? $3,600 a year??
There were several victims' families saying they don't want to see the face of the
perpetrator (if everyone calls him that, his defense lawyer can claim he can't get
a fair trial because he's already convicted, so we should be saying, "the accused!"
-- more political correctness for you) on the news, and they don't want to hear
his name. They say this is all about the victims.
Meanwhile, we're here worried about a persecution of Catholics, and now it looks
like everyone is going to be persecuted, regardless of religion.
