  • Speculative Eschatology: The Great Monarch of Prophecy
When Christians think in terms of the end of time, we generally think of a really evil time when Satan possesses a man, known as the Antichrist, and rules the world. Much reference to this can be found, not only in the New Testament of the Bible, but also in the Old Testament. The New Testament is a reflection of the Old Testament in almost every way, and the Old Testament gives us many clues about the end times. What many people do not realize is that the end times, referred to as the Tribulation, will occur over a period of 490 years, and many events will take place during this time. One of the major events that mark the beginning of the Tribulation will be the rise and reign of the Great Monarch. The Great Monarch is a hypothetical figure known to many who study eschatology, and it is very possible that He is alive today.
Probably the most reliable source for eschatology is Christ himself. Given that Christ is God, He would be the only one to know the future. In Matthew 24, Christ’s disciples approach Him asking about the end times. His response is somewhat vague, but He mentions famines, wars, false prophets, etc. Amongst all of this, He references Daniel the prophet:
[Matthew 24:15]- “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’
spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place…..”

This is a huge clue for eschatologists in their quest to understand the Tribulation. We now know that Christ is referring to Daniel, in the Old Testament, because the “Abomination of Desolation” is mentioned in the book of Daniel. Here is where Daniel the prophet talks about this abomination in the Old Testament:
[Daniel 11:31]- “And forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the
sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual [offering],
and they shall set up the abomination that maketh desolate.”

Daniel’s vision, starting in Chapter 7 and ending in Chapter 11, is about the Tribulation since Christ makes reference to Daniel’s “Abomination of Desolation”, while speaking about the Tribulation in Matthew 24. Now that we know Daniel’s vision is of the Tribulation, we can begin to examine other portions of his vision.
Daniel’s vision begins with an outline of the 4 major kingdoms during the Tribulation. Each one of these kingdoms will be world super powers at different points in time. Daniel gives an overview of these kingdoms in the following verses:
[Daniel 7:4-8]- "The first was like a lioness and had the wings of an eagle. I kept
looking until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the ground and
made to stand on two feet like a man; and a man’s heart was given to it.
"And behold, another beast, a second one, resembling a bear. And it was raised
up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth; and thus they
said to it, 'Arise, devour much meat!'
"After this I kept looking, and behold, another one, like a leopard, which had
on its back four wings of a bird; the beast also had four heads, and dominion
    was given to it.
"After this I kept looking in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful
and terrifying and extremely strong; and it had large iron teeth. It devoured and
crushed and trampled down the remainder with its feet; and it was different from
all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.
"While I was contemplating the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came
up among them, and three of the first horns were pulled out by the roots before
it; and behold, this horn possessed eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth uttering
    great boasts.

Daniel 7:4 describes a kingdom that is like a lioness and has wings of an eagle. Some speculate that this represents the European Union united under one king. It is referred to

as the lioness because Europe is largely ruled and influenced by women. The wings of an eagle represent the United States, and how the United States will play a role in establishing this Kingdom. Before this Kingdom is established, the Middle East, backed by Russia, will attempt to conquer Europe and establish Sharia Law. Interestingly enough, there is a prophecy in the Qur’an that one day Islam will conquer Europe. At one point, it will seem like the Middle East will be successful. The United States will get involved and fend off the invasion as well as set up a counter attack, along with its allies, to reclaim Holy Land. The Great Monarch is addressed at the end of Daniel 7:4 when it says, “and a man’s heart was given to it”. The Great Monarch will rise to power once the Islamic invasion is put down, and He will reign as emperor of Europe. The second Kingdom of the Tribulation is Russia as marked by the bear in Daniel 7:5. The third Kingdom of the Tribulation will be a combination of areas including India, China, and Indonesia as marked by the leopard. They will all be consolidated into one kingdom, but it will be ruled by 4 kings (leaders) mentioned as “four heads” in Daniel 7:6. The fourth major kingdom of the Tribulation will be the whole world consolidated into one kingdom and first ruled by 10 kings. These 10 kings can also be found in Revelation 17:12 in the New Testament. Revelation 17:12 goes as follows:
[Revelation 17:12]- And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which
have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the
    beast [Antichrist].
At this point in time there will be no sovereignty left in the world. Many events will take place where areas of the world will consolidate, and it is all part of a master plan to create a single world government. These kings will be in power for a short time, then the

Antichrist will come and take control of the world. This can also be seen in Daniel 7:8 when He says, “behold, another horn, a little one came up among them [the 10 kings]”. Cross references, like these, can be made between Daniel’s vision and the book of Revelation in the New Testament. Yet another example of how the New Testament reflects the Old Testament. There are a few other verses that describe the Great Monarch in both Testaments. They go as follows:
[Daniel 11:3-4]- Then a mighty king will arise, who will rule with great power and
do as he pleases. 4 After he has arisen, his empire will be broken up and parceled out
toward the four winds of heaven. It will not go to his descendants, nor will it have the
power he exercised, because his empire will be uprooted and given to others.

[Revelation 6:1-2]- I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then
I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” I
looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was
given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.

The Great Monarch will be a warrior king. He will fight in the war against the Middle East and Russia as an officer. To get a deeper look at this character known as the Great Monarch we can examine private revelations about him.
The Great Monarch has been prophesied about for over 2,500 years. Many prominent members of the Christian Church have prophesied about him since Christ. The following Private Revelations give us a deeper look into this biblical figure:
"A Frankish King will one day rule over the entire Roman Empire." (Augustine, 5th Century)
"The sixth period (of time) will begin with the powerful Monarch." (Ven. B. Holzhauser, 17th Century)
"... a King of the House of Lilies (France)..." (Cataldus, 5th Century)
"The White Flower again takes possession of the Throne of France."
    (Hildegarde, German Abbess, 12th Century)
"In his childhood he will be like a saint; in his youth a great sinner; then he will be converted entirely to God and will do great penance; his sins shall be forgiven him, and he shall become a great saint." (Francis of Paola, 15th Century)
"Greece he will invade and be made King thereof." (Cataldus, 5th Century)
"He will regain Holy Land after terrible wars in Europe." (Telesphorus de Cozensa, 11th Century)
" ... away shall drive the strange race Arabic." (Nostradamus)
"The Great Monarch ... will conquer the (Middle) East." (Pareus, 17th Century)
"The Eagle (United States) will also invade the Mohammedan countries." (Bridget,14th Century)
"He shall subdue to his dominion the Mohammedan Empire" (Gekner, 17th Century)
"He will crush the foes of Christianity." (Methodius, 4th Century)
"He will put out all heresies." (Merlin the Bard, 7th Century)
"He shall be a great captain." (Francis of Paola, 15th Century)
"The Great Monarch will be at war till the age of forty." (Cataldus)
"He will go through all Europe with a powerful army, uproot every Republic, and exterminate all rebels." (Gekner, 17th Century)
"France shall first be yoked by this King. Britain shall humbly cast herself at his knees. Italy...will contribute to him her languishing right hand." (Sibylla Tiburtina)
"There will rise in Gaul a King of the Greeks, the Franks and the Romans." (Liber Mirabilis, 16th Century, quoting an old prophecy)
"He will join the Lion and the White Flower." (i.e. unite England and France). (Orval, 13th Century)
" ... by whom the ancient glory of the Empire shall be restored." "He shall be Emperor of Europe." (Aystinger)
"A King shall come and act contrariwise, the high pulled down and the low raised up high."(Nostradamus)
    "He will restore everything." (Holzhauser)
"Peace will return when the Lily ascends the Throne again. The land will be very productive."(Hildegarde)
"Many wise laws will restore peace."(Orval)
"An era of prosperity follows." (Lehnin)
"And the earth shall enjoy peace and prosperity."(Bridget)
"This shall re-establish a peace and prosperity without precedent."
    (John-Mary Vianney, Cur‚ of Ars, 19th Century)

The reign of the Great Monarch will be an era of peace for the world, and probably the only time of peace during the Tribulation. In the bible, white symbolizes peace. We speculate that the Great Monarch will bring peace to the world because he is the rider of the white horse. Much of the private revelations points to this as well. Many people, including myself, think that it is possible that the Great Monarch is alive today.
As mentioned above, Daniel 11:3-4 is a cross reference to the Great Monarch. In order to examine events that will happen before the rise of the Great Monarch, we turn to the verses in Daniel 11 before verses 3 and 4. Daniel 11:1-2 goes as follows:
[Daniel 11:1-2]- 1 “Also in the first year of Darius the Mede, I, even I, stood up to confirm and strengthen him. 2 And now I will tell you the truth: Behold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than them all; by his strength, through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece.

Today Persia is known as Iran. The Iranian (Persian) Monarchy can be traced all the way back to 2700 BC. In 1978, the Islamic Revolution began. By 1979, the Iranian Monarchy

was deposed. The final dynasty of the Iranian Monarchy is known as The Pahlavi Dynasty. Here is information on the Pahlavi Dynasty:
Name   Portrait   Family Relations   Born-Died   Entered office   Left office
Imperial Heads of Pahlavi Dynasty (1925–1979)
    1   Reza Pahlavi I
        Son of Abbas Ali   1878–1944   15 December 1925   16 September 1941
    2   Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi
        Son of Reza Pahlavi I
    1919–1980   16 September 1941   11 February 1979
Post-Imperial Heads of Pahlavi Dynasty (1979–Present)
    1   Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi
        Son of Reza Pahlavi I
    1919–1980   11 February 1979   27 July 1980
3   Reza Pahlavi II       Son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi
    1960 –   27 July 1981   Incuмbent

These 3 kings could very well be the 3 kings mentioned in Daniel 11:2. Interestingly, there is no legal person to succeed Reza Pahlavi II because Reza’s children are all female.

The fourth king, in Daniel 11:2, has not risen to power yet, but could rise to power within the next few years. He will not come from Persia, but He will rule it. He will most likely be the king of the entire Middle East. The Middle East is currently moving towards establishing Sharia Law, and eventually a Middle Eastern union. This fourth king could very well be an allegorical figure, known as the Madhi of Islam, as prophesied in the Qur’an. The Madhi of Islam will be responsible for leading the Islamic invasion on Europe, and will eventually be put down by the United States and allies. The Madhi of Islam will be the arch nemesis of the Great Monarch.
There are obviously many theories regarding the end of the world. More modern theories involve the year 2012 and the end of the Mayan calendar. Other, more scientific, theories involve meteors crashing into the earth ending all life. Even Christians are divided on what will happen in the end. Some hold that we should not attempt to predict the end of the world because of what Christ says:
[Matthew 24:36]-But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels
in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Others read a little further and notice what Christ says in Matthew 24:42:
[Matthew 24:42]-Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day
    your Lord will come.

A few even hold that Barack Obama is the Antichrist. I think they need to study their eschatology a little better. There is still quite a bit that needs to happen before the arrival of the Antichrist.
I personally believe that we are either in the beginning of the Tribulation or we are about to enter the beginning of the Tribulation. I also think that our operations in Iraq

and Afghanistan are the prelude of a much greater war to come. Once the Tribulation kicks off, there will be 490 years until the return of Jesus Christ and the very end of everything. When this happens, everyone will immediately be judged and sent to either Heaven or Hell. Many speculate that the Great Monarch is Archduke Ferdinand Zvonimir of Austria. Whoever it is, the Great Monarch will be the last Holy Roman Emperor and the first Emperor to reign over all of Europe.

??? I'll have to look into that, it's been a while since I paid any attention to Daniel, probably because that book nearly drove me crazy once.  Or I should say, I drove myself crazy because I read it with an egotistical perspective.

    Quote
The wings of an eagle represent the United States, and how the United States will play a role in establishing this Kingdom.

     :roll-laugh2:

If you mean by falling apart and inspiring Europeans such horror that they finally abandon all republicanism and accept a King, yes, you're right.

The Great Monarch will not be aided in any way by the United States; what we think of as the U.S. will have ceased to exist at that time, because it's Mystery Babylon and is reduced to cinders.

I need to go back to Daniel, so thank you for posting this.  The eagle may very well represent the U.S., just like the bear is probably Russia, I will study it further, but you didn't quote where it says its wings will be plucked off and it will be given the heart of a man.  Now, Americanism separates Church and state, betraying the blood of the martyrs; the blood of the martyrs, meaning the Spanish and French missionaries, runs in its streets, betrayed by the Constitution.  Vatican II is an Americanist church; also the church of MAN placing himself where God should be.  That is what this probably means, then, the potential for America was not realized, it could have flown, it began as Catholic, but through Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ its wings were plucked off and it became the servant of MAN and not God.

That is very provisional, by the way, I'm just thinking out loud.  I don't have the time or energy to get into all this at the moment.

However, I am pleased that you discovered the Monarch in the Apocalypse ( Revelation is the Prot title ).  Much of the 19th chapter is about the Monarch.  Apart from that all of this is very confused, like most personal interpretations of these books tend to be.  But there are certain things in there that ring true; like the little horn being anti-Christ.

You should stick to the basics of what can be known at the moment instead of thinking you can decipher everything.  When people try to interpret all of prophecy they just make it all more confusing.  We can only see a tiny window of what's going on; but it is enough.

  • Apocalypse 19:11 --

    Quote

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called faithful and true, and with justice doth he judge and fight.

This has been traditionally interpreted to refer to Jesus.  I believe it is the Monarch who is given so much power by God that he essentially wages war AS God.  I'm not saying he's God; but I don't know how else to put it.  He is invincible for a while and is an agent of divine justice, with God using his arm.

The medieval imagery of this chapter makes it abundantly clear to me what it's really talking about.

He is also a prefiguration of the Second Coming.  And Joan of Arc was a prefiguration of the Great Monarch fighting THROUGH the Virgin Mary.  Because remember this will be the Age of Mary and it will be extremely Marian in its imagery and mindset, more than any time before.

    Yeah turned it in yesterday.
