What charities do folks here give to, and why?

I give to my parish, several missionary orders or groups, and a local homeless shelter and soup kitchen, where I also volunteer.  I also occasionally give to others.  I chose these becasue they advance the Catholic faith and, in the case of my parish and the homeless shelter have a positive impact on my community.

We have a St. Anthony's poor box in the vestibule of our church, and I prefer to offer donations there.  Sometime when I have extra money in my purse and happen on a homeless women, I will give directly to her.

In England, you have the Catholic Volunteer Movement. They have established several soup kitchens and carry out necessary spiritual and corporal works of mercy.

NO St Vincent De Paul societies are good. I've been helped several times by them.

St Vincent De Paul advertises state phone numbers for women who are pregnant.  Those state phone numbers support abortion.  Why does St. Vincent advertise state phone numbers?  I found out about this in 1992.  I asked the main doctor at our St. Vincent De Paul why the advertising of state phone numbers and he said they serve everyone and refer for abortion?  Check it out!  I give no money to any New Order business.

We used to be able to donate to a few worthwhile causes, but currently we can only afford to do our tithing to our parish but there is still one thing that we can do for those in need locally. We do that by purchasing our clothing at 2 local thrift stores that uses their profits to feed and shelter the homeless and those in need.  We trust that every little bit helps.

When we have something that we don't need we usually give it to relatives and if they don't need it, they pass it on.
