  • I received my heirloom seeds from http://www.survivalistseeds.com , as well as some dvds.  In one, he shows you how to plant a "survival garden", which will not be seen by passers by.  This is important, imo, as the traditional garden spread will be easily detected, making the owner a bit of a target when things get dicey.

  • Some words from Bishop Williamson.

Note that the "liberal" he refers to is probably smarter than I -- but because of his poor training, his mind has fallen off its hinges. Since he doesn't seem to believe in objective truth, his mind will never function properly -- that is, it will not be able to arrive at true conclusions.

What is my point? An average man with his head screwed on straight is more USEFUL than a genius whose mind has been destroyed by false principles -- or a genius who has not the Faith and is going off in all kinds of wrong directions.

At a public conference I gave recently (not in Germany), a liberal of a venerable aspect and age doubted whether human beings are really that valuable. I deliberately sharpened the reply: "Place all the horses on earth in one pan of a pair of scales, and in the other pan one wretched but human beggar, which pan weighs heavier?" Instead of answering the question he said, "That´s religion, that´s not common sense." At which point I became a little angry...

It was not so much his love of horses that was upsetting. After all, the horse is a noble and useful animal, and all the horses of the world are certainly worth a great deal. Nor was it even his implicit scorn of religion that was disturbing. After all billions of human beings alive today see no reason to take seriously what they understand to be religion. What was terrible was the heresy of heresies underlying his hippophiliac answer, namely the assumption that one truth can contradict another.

Of course liberalism is now as common as daisies (or dandelions), so the good man was most likely unaware of the objective enormity of what he had said. But what he had clearly implied was that there is one truth for common sense and another truth for religion. In other words truth is not one nor absolutely exclusive of error, but there are different truths for different people at different times, above all in different domains, and they can flatly contradict one another without any problem. Thus what is true for common sense can be false for religion, and vice versa.

This disbelief in the oneness of truth, or in its attainability by human beings, is, if it is a conscious denial, the crime of crimes, and if it is an unconscious assimilation of the disbelief in truth so widely shared today, it is the loss of losses. To starve the mind of that truth for which it is made is a crime as infinitely greater than starving stomachs of food, as eternal life is infinitely greater than this little life we have on earth, 70 years or so. This is because disbelief in exclusive truth, or in its possibility, cripples thinking at its very root, turns minds into mush, and ultimately crumbles the indispensable natural foundations of that supernatural Faith without which we cannot save our souls (Heb. XI, 6).

The venerable lover of horses came up after question time to smooth things over : "I only meant to say that the question in that sharpened form is not common sense", he said. It was much to be feared that he had little idea of all that he has lost. Kyrie eleison.

  • He is quite the survivalist, from his biography on there.

But sites like his DO make me a bit critical. Let me explain --

He is using "play on fear" to enrich himself, is he not? He seems to have a typical sales pitch on his site. Either he, or someone he knows, went to marketing school to design the website he has there. he hits all the bases.

For example, he is exaggerating how much other places charge for seeds. Wal-mart seeds are NOT 3.00 for 20 seeds. More like 10 or 30 cents for 50 seeds. But you see, his exaggeration makes his own price of $158 for a bunch of seeds a lot more palatable. That's what bothers me.

"If I charged any less I'd be losing money"

Yeah right. $10 for priority mail shipping? I don't know how much they weigh, but I doubt it would cost $10. I think he's making a bit on the shipping.

And what seed dealer DOESN'T get seeds in bulk? He's "buying in bulk to pass the savings on to us". So that's his secret? Wow! Who would have thought of that? Buy wholesale in bulk, and then mark it up a bit and sell in smaller portions! (Sarcasm intended)

Let's see...every retailer in the world does just that.

I'd personally be tempted to find heirloom seeds in a local store, or online -- I'd certainly want to shop around either way before plunking down $168 (including shipping) for 10 pre-picked varieties of seeds that "grow anywhere".

That's another thing I am cautious about. I don't think ANY seeds can be THAT indifferent to the weather. Texas is NOT New York. A Texas summer is more like Ecuador than North Dakota. Either they prefer summer highs in the high 70's, the mid 80's, or the low 100's. It can't be all of the above.

  • I think Vandaler would be proud of me...

I DO try to sort through the websites. Some of them are a bit too "unreal" or alarmist even for me -- such as Hal Turner's site.

I do try to cross-check what is claimed, and see if anything they say makes them suspect. Unfortunately, this Survivalist King of sorts doesn't pass the smell test, at least as far as his seed-selling operation is concerned.

I do recognize your acuмen on a few fronts.  Housing Bubble,  Food Prices, and Gold as an investment lately are all stuff you've been talking about ahead of the curve indeed.

Those above where based on the positive ID of hidden trends.

I was thinking of doing a re-evaluation of my taunting thread in the "Bunker" section where I was disagreeing with the economic prospects for 2008.

It's noteworthy how wrong I was in my estimation that Oil prices would go down but in spite of that, the GDP has not turned negative yet.  I still hold that there will be no recession this year.

I've stopped making predictions and my blog is down.  It was stressing me out to much...   :smirk:

  • Hal Turner is and has always been a fraudulent provacateur. Never the less, his web site was at one time worth keeping up on--this is no longer the case.
There Is No Such Thing As 'Sede Vacantism'...
nor is there such thing as a 'Feeneyite' or 'Feeneyism'
