  • Matthew,

    Greetings in Christ.

Back when (say around 1995) I moderated a board and chat room on AOL for church musicians.

One of the first rules for moderators was this:  Moderate, don't Debate.  As a moderator, you were never to get involved in public and heated debates.  Instead, all issues were to be deal with pivately through e-mail.  There was a three strikes, you're out rule - with a warning given each time.  Unless of course, it was offensive (three P's) - profanity, pornography, or online prositution.

I realize that we've come a long way with the internet and forums since the mid 90's, but I can't help but wonder if certain moderators and forum owners couldn't learn from these basic rules.

    Peace be with you.

    Christopher

  • How about that. I just said today that I expected something from over there. Not this though. I thought they would join here under other names. Course that is the conspiracy theorist in me.
Fact is, if you say the truth in the most sweetsie=poo, coochie coochie terms and people are not Living the truth or even making slight variations then you hit a nerve and they do not want to hear it.

  • Well, I hope to make the best of it, and do even more posting over here.

I've already come up with the beginnings of a more pleasant looking color scheme, and I fixed the time zone issue.

I hope to make this forum here better than ever.

Clare!  It sounds like you are "becoming"!  Welcome in advance.  You see, the problem is, when you start thinking, honestly thinking, you wind up here.

    "Becoming" what?!

I've been thinking for ages! Honestly too, I hope!

  • Matt,

Dont let it bother you.  Having strong opinions about traditional Catholicism is bound to get you excluded from fora that advocate positions not in accordance with Catholic Tradition.  Fisheaters fora -- apparently, despite a very strong apologetics section -- appears to be a case in point.

You know that I had a recent experience similar to yours yesterday.  I was defending/advocating the 'no pants' side of the 'pants/no pants on women' debate.  Without warning, my posting ability was suddenly interrupted.  If the forum owner or moderator wanted to halt discussion on that particular topic, she/they could have simply said so.  Rather than do that, well, you see for yourself how things were handled.

In the end, it really is their loss that you were excluded.  After all, why would you want to be a part of a forum that conducts business in that manner in the first place?  Think of it as an opportunity to do a better job over here to set a better example.  You can learn from even negative 'examples'.

In fairness, while the action does seem rather heavyhanded, Catholic Tradition is a broad church! And the trousers thing is an issue where there is liberty.

The Church is in a state of confusion. Setting ourselves up as arbitrators of what constitutes Trad Catholicism is unhelpful!

  • I think I know why Dr. Kopp says that. In his reply to Vox's article on Stalin, he said that it is nearly impossible to talk about Zionism without losing credibility. He said there must be good prospects for success in this kind of thing, and he insinuated that there will not be good prospects at all because of the political atmosphere right now.

As for "h0Ɩ0cαųst denier," I told him the site opposes the official view of the h0Ɩ0cαųst.

You said you are between NO and our brand of traditionalism, Clare.  You are "becoming" one of us, though how long that will take I don't know.  I figured you think or you wouldn't have left NO behind.  And the process of thinking eventually leads you where it lead us.

I'm just a Catholic. A traditionalist one. My own brand, probably! Light years away from Novus Ordinarianism!

Where has it led you lot then? Surely you're not all the same?

Who's to say that you're not en route to my brand of Traditionalism!

I'm right, everyone else is wrong! Always remember that!

Hmmm.  To get where you are at, Clare, we would have to turn around, because we've already been there.

Sometimes it's right to turn round. For example, if you've taken the wrong turning or gone too far!
