Can anyone suggests books that explain Catholic teaching and economic theory? I understand a bit about why capitalism, communism, and socialism and other -isms aren't in line with Church teaching but I would like to know more. I have read a bit on distributism but since it "died on the vine" I can only assume that it is not viable either. What is? Are there books explaining/promoting a Catholic economic theory?

Capitalism and Socialism-largely same, control by a few.

Might want to gets ome books from IHS press, Omni, ANgelus Press
also, several Distributist sites around:
Distributist review
Distributist party

to name but 2 of many.

Stay away from Austrian school, as it is a profits otivated group, they largely write off the idea of morals in economics.....Chris Ferrera has some goo info on this.........so to ISOC.ws talks and books.....ISOC is Judith Sharpe, mother of IHS founder John Sharpe....

many.......see, last post

Distributism "died" due to lack of financial support in UK, WWII and the centralizing after wards, but is revived and not dead, not by a long shot!

It worked and works well.... :smile:

The Church condemned socialism and communism in all it's forms, PERIOD.
The Church has never condemned capitalism, only criticized it's excesses and abuses.

I recently read" Toward a Truly Free Market" by John C. Medaille ( a traditional Catholic, who sometimes has articles in the The Remnant, a trad Catholic periodical), and found it to be enlightening. Mr. Medaille has a website where you can read his material.

Distributism is the most in line with Rerum Novarum, Quad-Anno and other encyclicals.......

Would urge you Marsha to really read and look into it......contact the people promoting it....
