Did you know that you can change the title of the topic you're responding to, for the response post you're making?
Say there's a topic: "Matthew is a jerk!" and I want to respond to it. To prevent "Matthew is a jerk!" from appearing in the main threads listing, and propagating that title further, I could change the title to "Matthew is just fine!" as I make my response post. Then, for that post, the title will be changed. And if anyone just lazily hits "Reply" to that thread after me, and makes a response, guess what title will be used? "Matthew is just fine!" -- MINE. Now if someone replies to the ORIGINAL post in the thread, the original title will be used. But even then, the responder COULD change it if he or she wished.
And that can be done by ANY member, not just moderators. Just make sure you do it BEFORE you create your reply post. I don't know if members can modify titles after the fact.

This is probably not a good feaure. I think that OP's thread title should be respected. This could give the impression that, oh, well, Sean Johnson started a thread named "Sean Johnsion is a jerk" :laugh1: Could accidentally happen here you know.

See, now nobody knows on the hot thread summary list what this thread is actually about.

Uncalled for, but I know you can’t help yourself, so carry on!

That's an interesting feature

Let's not accidentally start a fight over this feature.

I agree.
It should not be used willy-nilly. It is especially useful, though, when a thread has, shall we say, "migrated" not to say "derailed" from its original topic.
Also, if the original title was incorrect, inaccurate, obsolete, etc.
Like an election night thread might change from "X is losing" to "Why did X lose?" over the course of the night.

DL, be good!

In all seriousness though --
I should point out the obvious: the thread title is NOT exempt from moderation, consideration of continued membership on CathInfo (being banned or not-banned), etc.
Don't think it's some kind of "freebie" where anything-goes.
One's continued CathInfo membership is riding on his ongoing following of the rules, which includes general decent behavior. That includes what goes in the "Subject" field as well as the body of the message itself.
So, in the end, it's not a problematic feature at all.

Ah, lighten up. My comment about Sean was tongue-in-cheek, just an example since everyone knows we don't see eye to eye. I was playing off Matthew's example of "Matthew is a jerk!"
Point I was trying to make is ... this can be abused and probably needs some restrictions.
So, for instance, if Croix were ever to get back on, he could respond to ever single thread in the recent treads list and change the title to "Ladislaus is an idiot". I could have used any example, really, but chose to pick on Sean.
Just saying ... this has a potential for abuse. I've actually noticed this feature before this post ... in an almost comical context. Let's say OP creates a thread, "R&R is wrong." Next guy changes the title "Sedevacantism is wrong", then back and forth :laugh1:

I thought croix was crobar.

I thought croix was crobar.
That's possible.

That's possible.
Oh 100%. It is.

Oh 100%. It is.
Agree!

I've used this feature before, for example when a thread was badly misnamed. The problem is, it seemed to revert back very quickly to the original after others posted.

I thought there was a new thread about Paul McCartney. I was going to click on it and reply, "Who cares"
Then I saw it was THIS thread.

Don't like titles being changed. When you look for something you're following, all of a sudden it's not there.
Just had a first poster change the title of my post and it has NOTHING to do with the post except for the name of St. Joseph.
This feature sucks.
