CATHERINE NIENABER Obituary
Catherine Nienaber, 49, of Kansas City, Kan., died Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at St. Vincent DePaul Roman Church, 3106 Flora, Kansas City, Mo. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 127th and Parallel, Kansas City, Kan. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, at the St. Joseph House Chapel, 11485 Farley Road, Platte City, MO 64079, where the rosary will be prayed each day at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 3106 Flora Avenue, Kansas City, Mo. Cathy was born Oct. 29, 1964, to Dr. Edwin Barron and Gail Vaughn Barron in Little Rock, Ark. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's Degree, with a major in History and minor in French. Cathy was most proud to be the wife of Steven Nienaber and mother of their nine children. She was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Church and their community. Cathy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Steven of the home; nine children, Thomas, Nicholas, Anne Marie, Jerome, Joseph, Monica, Dominic, Gerard and Gemma, all of the home; her father, Dr. Edwin Barron and wife Bunny Lynn of Little Rock, and mother, Gail Vaughn of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Edwin Barron, III of Indianapolis, Ind., and Todd Robert Barron of Little Rock; three sisters, Mary Frances Friedl of Indianapolis, Jennifer Carr and Whitney Perser, both of Little Rock. I didn't notice that.  Hopefully it was just the secretary at the funeral home who was so used to typing Mass of Christian Burial or didn't know the difference.  Surely the SSPX would do the Requiem Mass

The secretary doing the typing could have thought that "Requiem Mass"
was a typo.  If there was nobody proofing the copy, you get what you
get?  And the current SSPX isn't going to bother giving words of
correction to the funeral home because the new direction of the Society
is to be NOT militant, not to 'stir up' trouble, and "Can't we all just get
along?"  You know, like Rodney King said?  We should be glad that she
(or he) managed to squeeze in the word "Mass."  Hey, maybe there WAS
an SSPX priest proofing the copy, or maybe this "Mass of Christian burial"
was actually HIS IDEA, to replace "Requiem Mass" in the first draft.  I
wouldn't be too shocked to hear that.  Anyone who attends the Mass will
have a better idea of the full scope of the situation, especially if there is
a 'eulogy' included before, during or after the Mass in the context of
the church where the Mass is offered.  There should be no eulogy inside
the Church -- the place for that is at the gravesite after the burial
prayers, or at any meeting that occurs after that such as the 'reception'
if there is one.  When JFK's Requiem Mass was offered in 1963, there
was no eulogy inside the Church, because it simply was never done.
When Pope John XXIII's Requiem Mass was offered there was no eulogy
inside the Church, because it just was not done, not ever.



In any event, the main focus here is that we pray for the repose of the
soul of this model Catholic mother and wife.  That's what a Requiem Mass
is all about.  It's rather noteworthy that her Requiem will be offered
during the Octave of All Saints' Day, when a plenary indulgence is
attached to the visitation to a cemetery under the usual conditions.
