Okay.  Didn't he just incur excommunication by running his mouth about what happened in the conclave?

I don't know about the excommunication part but automatic writing is from the devil.  Considering Mahoney's past I would say it was beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Holy Ghost was not the one controlling him.
