  • Does anyone here canoe or kayak for leisure? I am interested in both, and originally considered purchasing a kayak, but it seems a canoe may be a better investment as it would be more friendly to for family outings. Kayaking is really a one man show. Perhaps better suited to you bachelors out there.

    Anyone?

  • From my knowledge I think you are right. A kayak is more of a one or two man boat and you move through the water quicker as you have a double ended paddle. A canoe can carry more I think and the paddles are only single ended T-bar type.

I think a kayak is more fun as you move quicker through the water and you also get a better work out and travel longer distances. You can also use them at sea but a canoe is heavier and not as suitable for rough water. It would be a better option for children.

  • My only suggestion is to make sure you have ideas in mind as to where you'd feel comfortable using it before you invest the money. A friend of ours is talking about selling his fishing boat as he can't take the family out and have a good time due to the high degree of immodesty in water recreation areas.
