  • It often happens that when i pray the Rosary all of a sudden it starts itching everywhere, even you-know-where, and it is really bothersome and distracting, and i wonder what the policy is when you're praying and it starts itching anywhere.

Should you do nothing and bear it? Or can you scratch?

I'm sure its the Devil who provokes all this.

If you can't help it then you can scratch yourself all that you need to. Jesus looks into the interior of the heart when you pray.

Why not just advise him to give up praying altogether because God knows when we stand up and when we lie down and He even knew us before we were formed in the womb?

NO!!! I don't advise anyone to give up praying. This is the goal of the Devil to make someone give up prayer. Never never never under any circuмstances should this person or anyone else give up prayer.

  • Do you scratch whenever youre praying and it itches?

Maybe we should do a poll.

I know that in public this is bad and shouldnt be done, but what about in private?

  • What a strange question.

Of course you CAN scratch yourself at any time unless your hands have been tied up: the question should have been posed, MAY you etc. etc.

May you answer an urgent call of nature during prayer?

May you turn off your mobile if it rings during Mass?

May you make way for somebody entering your pew during devotions?

May you pass them a book and perhaps help them find theiir place in it?

May you assist someone who faints in church?

May you blow your nose if you have to sneeze - I can't go on, it's all too pointless.

Not only MAY you, you damn well SHOULD.

  • Is it from your detergent and when it's quiet it really starts to bother you? Maybe try switching to a perfume free detergent especially for your sheets and pajamas.

  • When distracted during prayer, any bodily distraction, I always say, well God created us for our bodies to work in this manner, so it must be good.

Interesting about questions like this, I once read that you will get a different answer depending on how the question is asked for example:

Is it wrong to pray the rosary while sipping on a cup of coffee?

Is it wrong to sip on a cup of coffee while praying the rosary?
    Please pray for my soul.

  • Not exactly the best thread I've ever seen on CathInfo...some things should be common sense and aren't proper to be discussed in public.

If you scratch the itch - you do not commit a sin. BUT

If you offer that suffering up to GOD think of all the Graces you can receive!!!!!

Like if we have a headache and dont take aspirin

Or if we have a Toothache and Endure it

Or if we are hungry and skip lunch anyway and offer it up.

Are we obligated to do any of these things?   No , we arent.

But what if we have punishment due in Purgatory for our many Stains from forgiven

sins , and on judgement day Our Lord says - all those times you offered these

sufferings up as I did on the way to calvary - look how many sins you covered -

Your suffereing will not have been in vain.................

    Pax Vobis
