  • I was wondering because if Christmas falls on Friday one does not have to abstain.

    Merry Little Christmas.

  • Well then maybe I'll just do a variation on this. It will be nice.

Indeed, if it is a holy day of obligation, the law of fasting and abstinence ceases. See Can 1252:

    Quote

  • The Feast of the Epiphany is not a Holyday of Obligation in the USA.

Ups, I am sorry, a little confusing with all those different Holydays!

In England it is, and I've just enjoyed a bacon and egg lunch to celebrate!

Yes, and the Novus Ordites transfer the celebration of the feast to Sunday. What do they care though?  They eat meat anyway on Fridays!

  • It's not a Holy Day of Obligation for us, but we are taking a day off from school.  We aren't eating meat today but we are having cookies and a spice King's cake for dessert!

    Happy Epiphany!

  • A Happy and Blessed Epiphany everyone!

    God Bless.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

They shouldn't. The bishops of England and Wales reinstated Friday abstinence last year.

Oh, is it once again considered mandatory there (in the NO) to abstain under pain of mortal sin?

I thought that since Vatican II it's been a hate crime to believe in mortal sin...

  • In the countries where Epiphany  is a holy day of obligation, abstinence is  dispensed.
However,  in the USA, Epiphany is not a Holy day.  There is a fish on my traditional calendar for today.

  • Thank you everyone and Happy Feast of the Epiphany. I do not remeber if we abstained pre-VII but we are going to abstain today.
