  • At a guess:

    St Peter was crucified upside down; the Pope is the successor od St Peter.

  • The legend of the upside crucifixion of St. Peter is not supported by the full consensus of the Church Fathers. St. Peter in Rome and his martyrdom there is supported by the Church Fathers

    More importantly, concerning wrong crosses.
