  • I am confused by this article. It's says the pope married a civilly married couple, both flight attendents, on the plane he was on.

Seems he can.  But at what cost?  This poor guy needs prayer.

  • I do not believe that living in sin is an impediment to marriage.  Assuming this is true then, yes, a pope could marry such a couple.  What a pope should marry such a couple is a different story.

  • No confession and absolutely no preparation...

This triviality does not seem right.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • From a canon's lawyer blog on the "validity" of this marriage:

Once they are married they are no longer 'living in sin.'

It appears that this was prearranged. So the preparation and confession would already have taken place.

  • What a load of rubbish, it was a photo shoot and nothing more, PF just gets worse and worse, and there seems to be no way to rein him in, so he will continue to undermine the Faith and the Sacraments in this way, as a Pope he makes a good registrar...

Where does it say it was prearranged?  It seems to me that this was a complete surprise act.

Living in sin is not an impediment to marriage?  Since when?

Since the NO came into being. Their clergy marry cohabitators all the time.

Heck, half their clergy are cohabitating themselves ... usually with men.

Just because they do it doesn't make it valid or licit.

  • Living in sin is not an impediment to marriage?  Since when?
I’m willing to be corrected, but I’ve never seen living in sin listed as an impediment to marriage. The impediments I am aware of are the following:

    Betrothal
Vow of chastity or Holy Orders
    Mixed marriage
Forbidden time (abolished in the 1917 code of canon law)
    Impuberty
    Impotency
    Abduction
    Disparity of cult
    Crime
    Consanguinity
    Spiritual relationship
    Clandestinely
    Defect of intellect
