Buying Rosaries

  • I'm wondering if anyone here has a favorite website/store for purchasing rosaries?  My wedding anniversary is in 16 days and I need a site that doesn't dilly dally about shipping items out.  Now here's the problem that is most difficult to solve, I don't know what my husband does with his rosaries, but he keeps breaking them.  I overlooked the first one, because it was our son who broke it because he thought it would be cute to twirl it around on one finger.  But after that, my husband has gone on to break one of his and two of mine, including the one with Lourdes water in it.  So I guess what I'm looking for is a web store like, indestructible rosaries.com  Does anyone know of such a web store?  Any and all help would be much appreciated.

  • Try searching www.Etsy.com this is a site that anyone can get a shop and sell, it must be handmade items.  Many people there handmake rosaries, and they all ship immediately because they want a good feedback from their customers.

I have a shop there, but mine is only watercolor paintings, but I have got to know many of the Catholics there and most of them really do take pride in making rosaries.  You can read their feedback before you purchase.

The site has an excellent reputation, and as I said, it is either handmade or vintage.

Just go to the site and type in "rosaries" or "Catholic items"

    again the url is www.etsy.com
    Please pray for my soul.

Thanks Myrna!  I honestly do not know what that man does with his rosaries?  I wish someone could explain to me, how do you break a rosary with Lourdes water? :confused1:

  • Funny you said this, there was a conversation recently about how rosaries break, and someone suggested getting a little carrier like a tiny purse, or coin purse might be a better word.  This would be better than just putting the rosary in your pocket without protection.
    Please pray for my soul.

  • I know what my husband does, because I've seen him: he keeps moving the Rosary around and around in his hands while he's praying, rather than just counting each bead.  He broke a wood rosary and bought another more traditional one and he's working away on it.  We'll see how long this one lasts.

That's an interesting idea Mrs. Z.  I don't see my husband say his rosary.  He says his rosary during his lunch break at work.  But in this day and age of non-believers and lukewarm Catholics, at least our husbands pray the rosary, BONUS!  I'll pray for your husband Mrs. Z, that his new rosary stays intact for many, many Hail Marys to come.

  • Have you thought of making a string rosary?  You can buy kits from this site: http://www.olrm.org (Our Lady's Rosary Makers in Louisville, Kentucky) or you can buy nicer beads to make a Rosary of your choosing.  They sell the string, crucifixes and centerpieces and lots of different beads.  We've made very nice Rosaries and given them as Christmas gifts.

They have an inexpensive kit to make 50 mission rosaries for just $6.90.  These are the cheaper rosaries made of string and plastic beads and come in lots of colors.  I think that the cost of this kit is supplemented and so they ask that you give the rosaries away - not sell them, but you can sell the other rosaries that you make from the regular supplies. They are easy to make.  You just need to learn to tie the knots that go on each side of the Our Fathers.  I've also seen rosaries made with just a regular knot between the beads. This is a great apostolic work that even children can learn.  We've given these rosaries to our priests so they can give them out.

The kit comes with a little plastic tool to make the knots, but we like to use a little metal tool that we've had for years.  It was made from the spoke of an old umbrella. If you get really good at making the nicer knots, you can even make a Rosary completely of string with knots for the beads.

If you want to buy a ready made rosary made of either chain or string, try the CMRI Sisters' store at http://www.miqcenter.com
I just looked and they don't have any string rosaries on their site, but if you contact them directly, I imagine they could find a nice one for you from their store.  They have lots of things in their store that are not on the website.  Be sure to also order a little case for carrying the Rosary or the little boxes from Jєωelry can be used.

  • Mine break as I sleep sometimes.   :confused1:  Is it the devil?

The best I have seen are the Ladder Rosaries.  Super strong, and the double beading prevents the mashing-up.  They cost about $20.00.

I have in my hand a rosary made by the CMRI Sisters.  A string one too, with navy blue wooden beads.  It's a beauty and sturdy too.  I've had it quite a few years.

  • Speaking of rosaries: In another thread I read you should pray on a Fatima rosary, and in another thread, any rosary, need not even be blessed as Our Lady will be pleased regardless. I lose rosaries as I am always praying the rosary while driving, waiting at appointments etc.
I love the rosary, a most wonderful prayer.
I had a friend who visited the Holy Land this fall bring me a rosary blessed by the Pope. I have not prayed on it. Am I wrong? I have this fear or feeling that holds me back. Am I losing it?  I would like to hear thoughts from others.
O Mary, Virgin Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me (The Raccolta)

For starters, have you ever thought that maybe without knowing it, by losing your rosaries you may be helping those who find them?  Maybe some of the people who aren't familiar with the rosary, find one of your lost ones and start looking for more information about the rosary.  Then maybe they decide to start praying on your lost rosary.  You may without knowing it, be helping people to convert.  Wouldn't Our Lady be so pleased with your help in converting souls for her Son.

If you don't feel comfortable praying with a particular sacramental, may I suggest you don't until you have a chance to discuss the matter with your Priest.  I don't think you're losing it and maybe there is a reason for your fear in using this particular rosary.  Again, discuss it with your Priest and follow his advice.

As far as praying on a Fatima rosary, pray on the rosary that feels right to you.  Of course having read this thread, you know we're currently experiencing a shortage of rosaries at my house. :laugh2:
