  • Is anyone here familiar with a different version of the Bosnian wars between the Serbs and Bosniaks?

  • Somewhat...I read a little of Milosevic and certainly heard both sides. In any case, I think this whole tribunal at The Hague is a complete fraud and show trial.

    Any specific questions?

  • I was not aware that there were different "versions".

I certainly have no information available to me as to the current situation nor what has happened since the U.S. intervention under President Clinton, but just from what was explained in the media at the time, I've always thought that the U.S. had no business becoming involved but, if it did, the U.S. took the wrong side of the waring factions.

That much was clear.  I never did understand why the U.S. took the side of the Muslims living in a part of Serbia that had never been an independent State.

  • Thanks Pyrrhos and TKGS.

Pyrrhos, I'd read recently, that a lot of the history of the region goes unnoticed many times, and that the Serbs were essentially set up by the westerners and their crimes, though many were indeed committed, were magnified and those of the Bosniaks were ignored mostly.

I'm also a bit confused on the Serbs; though they are 'Christian' (I believe they are not Catholic, but Eastern Schismatic) I can't really tell if they are, as a whole, friendly towards Christianity, or use it simply as a means to fuel their political views. This is where I'm mostly interested. Was this really a battle of religion, or as most wars of this nature, was religion used as tool to add fuel to the fire on both sides?

I´d say "yes and yes". Religion certainly played its role, at least for the common soldier on both sides. Still, it was also very good for propaganda purposes.

It seems to me that Christianity is more present in the nations which are mostly schismatic, even though these separated churches are in themselves very much corrupted.

Also, don´t forget Catholic Croatia in the equation, which was lured into a devastating war with a similar mixture of good and bad reasons, religion one of them. In the end, it gained nominal freedom as another NATO vassal...
