  • An Illinois newspaper editorial scolds Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield for his statement on the moral responsabilities of Catholic voters. The State Journal-Register disagrees with the bishop's message and believes that many ohter Catholics also disagree. Therefore it concludes that he must not be speaking with authority: "Poll after poll has shown that lay Catholics nationwide reject their churches teachings on certain issues, particularly the prohibition against usin g birth control and gαy marriage. Statements like Paprocki's will only serve to increase that divide." The logic of the editorial suggests that a Catholic bishop should confine himself to reaffirming majority opinions.

Do you have an opinion on this?  Do you think the fact that a secular newspaper condemns the statements of a conciliar bishop is significant?

Cute.  They want to turn the church into a democracy.  I'm not surprised.  (a link would have been nice)
