Edit: The Holy Robe is a Catholic sacramental. The local ordinary of the Imperial City of Trier doesn't mind people visiting the Robe, even on a pilgrimage, but he draws the line at indulgences. They're too Catholic and will impede the ecuмenism, he cries.

The question of how to gain indulgences has always been an issue for me regarding SVism. (not that I wish to derail your interesting story of the Bp. of Trier.)

Catholicism runs deep in Germany, in some places deeper, but these events still inspire a lot of devotion which most of the German Bishops want to exploit and distort.

I'm pleased that a lot of German Catholics are angry about the Bishop having said this.

I was enchanted to do a little bit of research on the Holy Robe of Trier.

Breathtaking beauty!! The church built by Constantine. The majesty of it all.

I can't read German but it looked like people are pretty ticked off in a comments section, and as well they would be.
