  • The Bishop of Lancaster has launched a Lenten initiative to encourage Catholics to return to Confession.

Bishop Michael Campbell has written to all Catholic schools and parishes to announce the introduction of a co-ordinated weekly Confession on the same day, at the same hour in every church across the diocese.

From February 29 until the Wednesday of Holy Week, every Catholic church in the Diocese of Lancaster will be open from 7pm until 8pm in order for the faithful to go to Confession.

  • Good luck trying to get to confession on Ash Wednesday in the NO even though it is a premiere day of penance that kicks off Lent. I've tried this in the past. They offer 16 "ash services" that day and not one confession. Isn't even a holy day of obligation and they offer 3-4 masses to distribute ashes to the Ash Wednesday Catholics who go to church twice a year if they're lucky. Meanwhile any Catholic in mortal sin on that day who is in danger of death better hope he made a perfect act of contrition, because if not he's toast. But at least the Novus Ordites got their ashes!

  • I have gone to confession on As Wednesday every year for as long as I can remember.  I have never had any difficulty finding an opportunity to do so.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir
