I'm really surprised. Have any of you listened to the testimonies?
Several of these women have been on the radio yesterday and the day before, telling their story, and the details are strikingly similar, with only very minor variations -- how he did it, that is, was consistent.
Bill Cosby was "America's Father figure" in the 70's and 80's. His prominence in Hollywood was unquestionable. His comedy shows were universally popular. He had a lot of power in town and he had the power to destroy people's careers as well. Now he is on record threatening to destroy the career of a journalist if he dares to publish Cosby's refusal to answer key questions.
Are you going to say his voice is being faked by the journalist? Give me a break!
The wife of a prominent actor (he played The Incredible Hulk) aired her version of the story just yesterday on radio, and a subsequent show re-played the interview in segments that gave the Tim Conway Jr. show top ratings, even higher than entire radio shows on the same station and others. She described in detail how she had been set up by Cosby's friend to go to his house, where she was repeatedly offered a cocktail, which she had refused; and then Cosby's wife left the room without saying 'goodbye' and then her friend was suddenly absent without taking leave, with Cosby and she left alone in the "green room" --- when Cosby suddenly approached her, pressed her to himself and kissed her aggressively and with force on the mouth. She managed to push him away, being trained in martial arts, but that didn't stop him. He seemed surprised at her show of strength, and returned immediately for another attempt, as if to indicate that HE WAS ACCUSTOMED TO his advances not being refused. She reflects back now, realizing she had had the strength to push him away because she had not drank the "Spanish Fly" like the others had, and so she had been able to defend herself.
Other stories from other women generally agree that they 'had a drink' at Cosby's house and that soon after that, they awoke to find they had been raped. The obvious conclusion to be formed is that 'the Cos' preferred his victims to be defenseless and comatose. That observation should not be ignored overall.
President Obama came out with his immigration reform speech yesterday and a search of headlines online found about 6,000 related to Obama's speech. But meanwhile, as little interest in discussing the same topic endured, around 5,000 headlines were found regarding Bill Cosby's controversy, and numerous discussions continued. The point is, people in general are more interested in the accusations against "the Cos" than they are in protecting our borders!
So while it is not inaccurate to say there appears to be a 'feeding frenzy' going on or that 'the Cos' is the latest Guy Fawkes or 'punching boy' on the media scene, it's a little naive to say that this is all 'the media's' doing. Maybe the MSM isn't holding back, and maybe that's because 'the Cos' crossed some line, but still, if there were no truth in the allegations there's no way it could erupt like this.
As for why all these women waited all these years and only now are suddenly "coming out of the woodwork like cockroaches," as Matthew says, is reasonably and logically explained by the nature of women, which is very different from that of A-type males, and the cultural difference between today and 40 years ago. Back then women didn't have any power, really, when it came to making sex abuse allegations. It was all to common for them to be accused of "asking for it." Add to that the full-Nelson grip that 'the Cos' had on career advancement in The Industry, combined with his ACT of telling Blacks they ought to be family oriented and shouldn't be womanizers, and you have a recipe for public deception second to none.
Don't forget that in the South, Black men had long been at great danger for even so much as having a conversation with a White woman in public, and that sentiment lingers to this day. Not one of Cosby's victims were Black women. They were ALL White women, every single one of them... Put A and B together.
I'd venture to say that all these years, there was a blackmail situation going on, whereby the 'dirty secret' of Cosby's sɛҳuąƖ power plays was kept under wraps, so long as Cosby didn't dare to step over the limit line. Just what that 'line' was, or is, remains to be seen.
But to come out swinging against the allegations is not a Catholic approach to this. It makes you look like you're defending the sin of sɛҳuąƖ impurity, because all too many these days don't see anything wrong with it, and it's easy for them to accept. But then don't expect to be respected when you try to defend the reputation of priests who are accused of pederasty.
