  • This was previewed on EWTN during the Papal abdication coverage.

    The website is bibleseries.tv

    Here is their ABOUT page:

From Executive Producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett comes The Bible — an epic 10-part miniseries retelling stories from the Scriptures for a whole new generation. Breathtaking in scope and scale, The Bible features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathe spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation. This historic television event is sure to entertain and inspire the whole family.

The man and woman interviewed by Raymond Arroyo seem very enthusiastic
and optimistic about the series, which will air on Sundays through Lent up to
    Easter, on the History Channel.

The woman explained that while filming she was able to speak to the set
crew about the Bible stories, since they were asking questions about the
script, and she found the answers in the Bible she carried with her.

The man (I think he was the producer) said that when Americans go to
foreign business meetings they are at a disadvantage having been schooled
without study of the Bible, and they meet people in other countries where
a common topic is comparing current events to bible stories, because the
American schools do not use bibles in the classroom but other countries do.

    Week 1: Genesis

    Week 2: Kingdom

    Week 3: Hope

    Week 4: Betrayal

    Week 5: Courage

  • Sorry to say, but usually the fare on the "Hitler Channel" is very liberal.  They put out a "Bible Series" years ago...and it was super liberal!! They usually try to dazzle with 'whiz-bang" special effects, and go light on substance. It is not from a Catholic viewpoint!!

    Love,

    As would I.

  • I wonder if it will have Maccabees.

Probably not.  Which would mean it is made by prots.  I think there's a lot of money to be made in a Maccabees production.  Tons of action.  I figure even a Jєω would back a Maccabees production.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

That's a good question.  In the Interview they didn't mention anything about
    Maccabees, that I noticed.

One bible site I've used a lot to look up things claims to have all these different
versions of the Bible, including Douay-Rheims, but when you search for Maccabees
it comes up Not Found.  I tried the alternative spelling, Machabees, and the same
result, Not Found.  Also, the numbering of the Psalms is not according to the D-R
way, which is the Latin Vulgate way.  It has two books of Kings (not 4) and so on.
So it doesn't offer the D-R version, but rather a Protestant adaptation of the D-R
Bible, without any explanation that I can find, which isn't very honest.

Some of the members who don't have any interest in this production might have
interest in Fr. Gruner on Coast to Coast this evening.

I have always thoughts so.  I am really surprised there has never been a movie made about it.  You are right.  Catholics and Jєωs could both be happy about it.  And Orthodox too, I suppose.

I actually heard years ago that Mel Gibson was thinking of doing such a movie.  Obviously, if he was, it didn't happen.

I doubt that Romans will be in it, since there is really no ways to dramatize a theological treatise, which is essentially what Romans is.

  • Well, perhaps he will.  I hope it will be a good one if so.
